(Ir)religiosity : We Need a Christian Ethic of Blogging

Blake, I truly get what you are after here. But I would only suggest that a list of ethics can only be a pale reflection to the call to love. It's simpler too.

(Ir)religiosity : Nonviolence Doesn't Exist

I think you and I drank the same kool aid this morning. I think violence ultimately comes down to the destruction of dignity. Any act that harms or destroys a persons dignity is thus violence. It can be very subtle. So I would say the opposite it not non-violence, which defines it in terms of what it is not, but instead love, which defines it in terms of what it is. Love to me is any act that validates, holds, or restores a person's dignity.

parables of a prodigal world : Did Jonathan Brink Just Kill Missional Tribe?

Brother, I think they can work together really well. The value of Missional Twibes for me is a repository for the "links" to the stories, not in the stories themselves. What makes Twitter valuable for me is people pushing ideas forward, and then offering the click throughs. Twibes is a glorified hashtag in some respects but it seems to aggregate well.

parables of a prodigal world : The Disabled Old Jesus: A Narrative/Theology

That's a beautiful and sad story all at the same time. I had jury duty once. And just after the evidence was presented, the judge dismissed us to the hallway for about 30 mins. As I sat there a woman walked out of one of the rooms and sat down on the bench and cried. I remember wanting to do the same for her but I chickened out. I wonder how often this happens on a daily basis in courtrooms.

(Ir)religiosity : Violence: A Working Definition

In reading the definition, I found myself backing off a little and asked why? And my first thought was the it's missing the word dignity. And here's why. Damage isn't necessarily bad. When Jesus cleared the temples, it can be argued that he was doing the money changers a favor by pushing them out of their own destructive behavior even though that was not the essential point. If I damage someones stuff and it was that stuff that was keeping them from restoration, it doesn't seem to be violence. But when I add the word dignity the your definition it gives it a very distinct meaning. Damage and injury are now deeper issues. Just my thoughts. :-)

Simply Missional : Broken but Beauitful: The problem with Crticism

Chris, I would offer that the burden of criticism has always fallen on the prophets because the leaders were unwilling to listen. So the leaders killed the prophets instead of listening. Just my take.

JakeBouma.com : Looking for help in planning a spiritual retreat

I too would suggest a more healthy approach. I would go with raw vegetables and water or decaf green tea. Bread is likely refined and bloats you. Coffee is a stimulant. Your body can best function on raw vegetables (maybe with a flavored hummus).

I second Zach's words. I just went on a solitary retreat and my mandate was to "enjoy Me" (God). Over three days I soaked it in and when I went home a whole bunch of things emerged that I was not aware of that only became clear when I stopped thinking about it.
