Like all of you I also love dogs. Zcelici brings up a very good point. These dogs are placed under general anesthesia just as you and I would be if we were to go in for surgery. They are not awake and they feel no pain. Medicine is not for the faint of heart. I don't know if you have ever sat through a surgery before but it is not pretty either. You can not learn how to practice medicine on a mannequine. I am an animal lover myself, I don't even kill bugs or spiders in my house. I simply catch and release them outside. Ideally it would be nice to live in a world where animals or humans did not have to be used to learn from but the reality is that without them we would not even know a fraction of what we know today about diseases and how to treat them. We owe these animals our deepest respect and graditude that they are helping to save countless lives. So then the next time one of you gets in a bad car accident or is diagnosed with cancer I bet you will not turn down the treatment just because an animal went before you when your life is on the line.
