Do you think that the visual and distressing rise in homelessness and destitution on our streets is in any way linked to the 'austerity' policies adopted by the Conservatives over the last nine years, or is that rise just 'something that's happened', unrelated to Government action?

And how might we reduce homelessness?

The meeting was for leaders of opposition parties. Umunna is not a leader, and his group isn't a political party.

It wasn't on for Umunna to be at that meeting, in the same way that it wouldn't have been right for Steve Baker to be there. That's for another time and place.

Genuinely, you did some good work back in the 1970s there, thank you.

Well, as a Labour/Momentum member, in response to your points, respectively:-

I was 55 last week, have never been in trouble with the police, have never approached anybody on the street asking for money, have two jewish ex-partners and a jewish best friend, don't support bombing campaigns, am working class, have a degree and have worked in education for 30 years and - well, actually I don't really know how to counter the 'little red fascist' jibe, so fair play to you.

Your first point is entirely correct though - we won't be disposing of our leader anytime soon, as he's likely to lead a socialist government at some point in the near future. Happy Christmas! (Though,of course, we'll have banned it by this time next year...)

Indeed. Obviously, I'm pleased, but understand your anger, as most Conservative members don't support what she's doing, and your MPs are overriding them.

I think Labour will probably wait for the Withdrawal vote to happen, when the DUP will vote against, and follow up with the breakdown in Confidence and Supply.

(Disclaimer - I'm a Labour/Momentum member)

Excellent analysis, except for one thing, Paul - the EU hasn't 'run down the negotiation clock'. That started ticking the day we invoked Article 50, and the EU has been consistent with their aims and strategy since then. It's the UK/May who have 'run it down', by having no real idea and plan as to what she was hoping to achieve.

Yes, I think your analysis is correct - the worst thing for the Tories is that she wins, but not overwhelmingly. All we know about her is that she would carry on. Then the DUP pull out. No confidence will be tabled shortly afterwards.

I think Corbyn is new old Labour, Blair is old new Labour.

(Usual disclaimer, I'm a Labour and Momentum member - and, fwiw in this context, have had a lifetime in theater inc. a stint at the National))

Sounds interesting, I wish I were able to get up and see it, as there definitely needs to be more analysis/questioning of the shibboleths of the left within theatre. Go for it.
