bowlingball.com News and Information : Bowling Ball Specifications

There are considerations to think about when drilling a bowling ball without a thumb hole though. Make sure your ball driller understands that without the thumb hole, your static imbalances change, and that the layout of the ball will need to change. We talked about static imbalances on Talk Bowling #42 http://www.talkbowling.com/talk-bowling-episode-0...

bowlingball.com News and Information : Bowling Ball Weight

Glen,

Definitely drop in weight a full pound to a light 15 lb. ball and you will not lose the core design integrity of the new ball, will still be able to get great pin carry, and will not sacrifice hook potential......more and more bowlers now days use 15 lbs than ever before....using a lighter weight ball will help you not fatigue as quickly in the last game or games you bowl and likely will not result in unwanted ball speed changes. The bowling balls recommended earlier will certainly serve your purposes.

bowlingball.com News and Information : Bowling 3-6-9 Spare System

Mark,

Another tip if you like the 3-6-9 system for shooting at left side spares would be to modify the adjustment to 2-4-6 if you wish not to alter your release. What is fun is to be creative when bowling on new lane conditions, such as in tournaments, and modify your spare adjustment system as needed to be successful on the given oil pattern. Thanks for the comment, sir.

bowlingball.com News and Information : POWER POSTURE: Proper Posture Will Ensure Consistency In Your Release

Jim,

Thanks for the comment. You may very well be spot-on with your assessment of the article content. We posted articles on occasion first appearing in the US Bowler publication by USBC and borrow (with prior permission, of course) these articles to share with our visitors who may have not had the chance to read the magazines.

As is the case with all article authors, including myself, we sometimes overlook an important fact or misstate something and not edit properly before posting. The important thing is we can share our thoughts and those of outside contributions by magazine writers, as example, to stimulate bowler's thinking and perhaps even help them improve their skills and techniques on the lanes or with the mental game aspects we all encounter in competition.

This is why we welcome your comment and your articulate statement. Thanks again and have a great Holiday season.

bowlingball.com News and Information : How To Tune Up Your Bowling Game

Michael,

Sounds like you advocate thumbless bowling and you must be a successful player in doing so....we agree that if you can control a thumbless release of the bowling ball and can adjust angles and ball speed and axis tilt effectively, then you are certainly going to benefit from pin carry and from the ball recovering strongly from your break point to the pocket.

Thumbless bowling is not for everyone, however. It requires a great degree of athleticism and can be tricky in competitive situations if a given player is not as gifted as those we see bowling on TV in tournament conditions.

We present articles such as this one to give a wide range of players tips on how they might sharpen their skills and prepare for competition. There are always exceptions to commonly accepted practices such as the case of thumbless bowling. Thumbless bowling is no fad - there are many players world wide competing in various competitions we never witness here in the U.S. and who are successful.

The points you make are good ones and we thank you for your comment and wish you a great Holiday season..

bowlingball.com News and Information : Bowling 3-6-9 Spare System

Mark,

Thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed the article.

On today's common house condition, we see a wet/dry oil pattern where getting your ball into the dry boards too quickly produces more hook than you may want. Your innovative style of aligning to spares and making a release adjustment is just what you should be doing to ensure you convert the huge majority of your common spare combinations. Use of a polyester ball at the ten pin can be useful if you are struggling with that spare by getting unwanted hook. There are several options for spare systems and it usually gets down to one which through experimentation works best for you - and for any bowler really. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us and best wishes this Holiday season.

bowlingball.com News and Information : Bowling Ball Weight

Glen,

The Ebonite Elevate ball is a ball designed for use in medium oil conditions. This ball will slide on the front part of the lane and react fairly strongly from the break point to the pocket because of its low RG and High Differential ratings and because it is a new Hybrid coverstock. If you wish to ensure you get good front end skid due to your injury, then the Brunswick Slingshot series and the Storm Tropical series balls are very good options.

Since you did not include information as to which ball weight you presently use in your comment, we cannot truly suggest a weight to try with any real confidence. With that, going down a pound in weight will help you in your third game of league, as example, and by making sure your technique does not automatically pick up unwanted ball speed, you should be able to get away with a slightly lighter bowling ball.

In your case, the coverstock is the major consideration in selecting your next ball. Make sure you get a shiny or pearl coverstock to ensure you get good front end slide without the ball hooking too soon where you have to dramatically alter your alignment if you are unsure how to accomplish that type of an adjustment.

Ask your pro shop professional to watch you bowl, re-weigh your favorite ball, and then choose the weight you think you will benefit most from in a new ball and choose the ball with a coverstock to match the amount of hook you generate for strike and for spare deliveries. Don't be bashful to choose a plastic/polyester ball if you are getting too much hook at spares or on dry lanes.

Hope these tips help? Thanks for the comment and best wishes this Holiday season, sir.

My personal feeling is that you paid to be fit when you had your ball drilled the first time. You didn't go is, ask to be fit, and not make a purchase. As for your PAP. There is also a chance that the ball driller doesn't even know how to find your PAP. You can find your own PAP. Here is a TalkBowling episode where we discuss this. http://www.talkbowling.com/talk-bowling-episode-0...
