This article seems to take for granted that Obama is slavishly attempting to appease modern "progressives." I don't see that at all. He seems like a true centrist to me. He does some things that please progressives, but his decision-making process does not appear overly calculated to please specific groups. Instead he seems to have a real gift of being able to bring all different viewpoints together and broker a compromise. Both the extreme left and the extreme right are never satisfied with "compromise," but the majority of the people are closer to the center, and even if they disagree with him frequently, they respect his ability to listen broker solutions to the country's problems.
