That's awesome! I'm so glad you got to talk with someone so close to the topic you're researching. I love that he uses his own students' ideas to teach Shakespeare, especially when he connects it to popular figures of our own time. great job!

I'm actually doing my next post on Queen Elizabeth, so nice intuition ;) that's a good thing to point out. I should definitely include other points of view in my arguments, so i'll take a look at that blog. thanks :)

This post is so interesting! I love the connections that you drew between jesters and comical sidekicks in modern romantic comedies. Would you say that these characters also have the ability to tell the truth and not be punished? I see this especially with George in My Best Friend's Wedding. He can pretty much say and do anything he wants and doesn't get in trouble because he does have that social label of being gay. Very interesting stuff :)

I agree. I think I would be offended if someone told me Fanfiction was a waste of time. It was a huge reason why I wanted to go into English and writing, and there are some really good writers on there, manny of whom I know have been published. So I'm a fan of Fanfiction all the way!

No, I never got published or anything, but it was so fun just to get other people's thoughts on my work! I actually had quite a few fans, so it was fun to get encouragement for writing. And yes, there is LOTS of bad writing on the site, which sometimes takes a lot of work to sift through. I would recommend going to author's favorites lists to help narrow the selection. Although there is some pretty terrible stuff sometimes, it really is an awesome way to improve your writing.

I guess the only difference would be that those are movies, but they are essentially the same thing. I really think that adaptations and Fanfiction approach Shakespeare in very similar ways. So then, yes, you could definitely argue that every adaptation of Shakespeare is Fanfiction :)

this is such a fun idea! It's awesome that you guys are so inspired by Shakespeare :) I think you could go farther than just posting this on your blog. I just posted on my blog about Fanfiction, a site where you can post stories (or plays) based on other authors works. I think you should try putting this up there and see if you get any feedback. its really fun, trust me! http://shakespeareglobal.blogspot.com/2011/03/fan...

this is such a fun idea! I really love that you chose two such interesting writers to be your main characters, it should turn out great :) I think you could go farther than just posting this on your blog. Thanks for the great comment! I really appreciate that you actually read and analyzed my post. My thesis was partly summed up in my last paragraph, but it's basically that women in Shakespeare's personal relationships, as well as in his audience, influenced him to write strong female characters in his plays, making him somewhat of a proto-feminist. I'm thinking that putting it in my last paragraph was probably a bad idea, so thanks for pointing out your confusion. I really like your idea on theater and effeminization, and I think that would be fun direction to take some of research. Great thinking! :)
