<title>Big Journalism : The Mainstream Media: Fourth Estate Or Fifth Column?</title>
<link>http://bigjournalism.com/jboot/2010/04/07/the-mainstream-media-fourth-estate-or-fifth-column/#IDComment66511955</link>
<description>Okay, cool. We get it. The MSM is biased and that makes it dangerous. So what do we do about it? Do boycotts work? If not, why not? Any good ideas out there? I tend to think that if we chose one financially ailing MSM outlet, and chose one major client for that outlet, and we made a huge, loud boycott of it, we would get attention real quick. Our demands? Your reporting on issue X was not satisfactory for reasons 1,2,3. We demand a rescinsion/correction to the effect of ---. If you do not comply with this, we will carry out a boycott of your sponsors, who are being put on notice as we speak. If they meet them, formulate a new set for specific stories. Their editors will get a definite feel for what is and is not acceptable. If they don&amp;#039;t, we proceed with the boycott. Comments? Ideas? </description>
