That is a concern. First thing is never invest in anything accept physical gold. You must have the gold in your possession not have a company holding it for you or buy gold "shares" or anything else - you need the coins or bars in your hands. In the 30's the government did not confiscate collector coins so that maybe a good way to buy gold but I doubt it . When they say turn it in this time they will want all of it for the "emergency" that they gin up. IMO the best way to buy gold now is as under the radar as possible. Cash transactions with local dealers and collectors. The E-bay sales and anything with your name on it is a bad idea. I like rolls of silver. Easy to get and they will be worth plenty for trade. Don't forget the ammo it will be currency as well.

The IMF is 45% funded by the Fed. The Fed is some shadow government that has the power to print as much money as they want and give that money to whomever they choose. They can give it to companies owned by their friends like Solyndra or Banks owned by their friends like Goldman Sachs or their friends in foreign companies, banks and governments. They are not elected oficials and cannot be audited. They can refuse to answer questions from Congress or provide documents to Congressional committees. This should end well.

Breitbart.com : Germany forced to tap into electricity reserves

Biggoofer is mostly correct. Electricity CAN be stored but not efficiently. The Germans are keeping some Power Plants offline or "in reserve" for peak demand. The lack of storage capacity is the folly of solar and wind power. It gets dark and sometimes the wind doesn't blow so Power Plants must be built to fully handle the peak loads when the solar and wind plants are offline making the solar and wind plants expensive toys. Drill here, build the pipeline and let the rest of the world swing it out.

I find it really funny that the Greek Central Socialist government is really pissed off that a larger Euro Central Socialist government is demanding control over them or they cut off the money. What happens when the Germans rightly demand control of the entire European Union or they cut off the money. What happens when the Chinese demand control over US or they cut off the money? Its not going to be pretty. Especially for you city folks with no second ammendment rights.

Breitbart.com : Sarkozy to announce tax rises Sunday: government source

Agree - its a populist solution - just like Obama here. We are borrowing well over a TRILLION dollars a year to buy Democrat voters. We have open borders and a 50% increase in food stamp recipients and free health care on the books. Real unemployment the highest since the 1930's - overpriced housing market with wages falling. Food and energy prices soaring while the government pisses away billions on ethanol, green research fantasies and their friends solar companies. Evey move we make and every communication device we use is monitored. Every bank transaction,e-mail,blog posting, gun purchase, web site visited all archived by our "elected" officials in the central government. Even if/when the Euro crashes the dollar will be in the same mess and the call for Global currency (government) will be screaming from every mass media outlet in the world except (hopefully) the internet where all dissenting bloggers will be on record. WE can now LEGALLY be sent to Gitmo without a trial FOREVER. Have a nice day!!

Keep repeating the same experiment expecting different results. I am not surprised when the italians and Greek do it. I am a bit surprised when the French do it because the are really taxing themselves to pay for the Italians and Greek, The problem will be solved when this "Trickle up Poverty" reaches Germany. The German people are not going to subsidize the EU southern welfare states any further. Why should they? EU is done - insert fork

I wish all of the children would leave but they won't. Tens of thousands of career government employees would never walk away from the gravy train. The ousted politicians and their staff just shuffle on over to lobby world or to Congressional buddies projects. Basically its Hotel California - you can check out anytime you like but can (will) never leave. In a few years if they have not settled into a better gig they will return when the good cop gets elected instead of the bad cop this time around.

Can someone help me out here please? I'm trying to understand how the collapse of the Euro will affect American citizens and the dollar and debt. I figure the value of the dollar goes up against most currencies. If true the price of oil in dollars should go down - correct? If correct good for us. The price of European cars, vactions and other stuff goes down for us - correct? Our debt This has got me a little puzzled. Our lenders like China and Japan I assume get paid back in dollars - if true they would be very happy about the Euro going bust - correct? If they get paid back in yen the U.S. would probably see a reduction in what we owe them - correct? I realize that U.S. banks are holding a lot of Euro paper and they would take a big hit but I don't see the politicians being able to get away with bailing them out this time - at least publicly = correct Thanks in advance

Don't like the sound of that. Could be a warning about a run on the banks. Please purchase some common sense items so your family will be safe and fed if things go bad. Its not crazy talk to protect your family. If (when) the Euro collapses we may not be able to buy things for week. You folks in the city will be in extreme danger day 2. There will be no mass transport or gas because the money will be no good for a while. You will be at the mercy of the mobs unless you can protect yourself. We should stay as far away from the war and especially the rebuilding. The Euros have zero energy of their own and the Russians are squeezing them hard. I can't believe The Germans who I would have bet money that they were smarter than this are still propping up a sure losing bet. Capitalists cut their loses and start a new game.
