It's a hammy, mannered, self-conscious, nay, selfish performance that thankfully doesn't detract from the authenticity that Leo, Wahlberg and Adams et. al. bring to the world being created. This is an otherwise excellent film and btw Bale will probably win the Oscar anyway. Back to Kim Darby. She actually manages a couple of contained scenes, the best of which is with the sheriff early in the movie when he gives her that big gun and the negotiating scenes with Strother Martin. But when she gets shrill and weepy...you have a half a mind of leaving her in there with those rattlesnakes. ;-) And, yes, she's too old.
