World In Conversation : What are your thoughts on everything we saw and heard in lecture about Native Americans?- 119 Blog

quite frankly the data that sam presented today pissed me the hell off. Like the american school society or just society in general tells us from when we are young that we are a peaceful and caring nation. They also teach us about how genocide is wrong and how we did all we could do in the 40s to help the jewish people in the holocaust. They also put that crap in our heads when we are like 6 years old that on thanksgiving is the day when the indians and the colonists had a big meal and everything was wonderful. Then after the big dinner the indians gave them this land we now call The United States and the colonists were all nice and everything was just dandy. Well that is all crap! Seriously we are not a caring nation and our foundation is built on lies. If we were so against genocide then we should not have done what we did to the native americans. I also understand that we cannot change what our ansetors did but at least we can tell our future generations what they did and how it was wrong. Also people should not sugarcoat the way that the native americans are living now. Because I do not know how many people think but my view was developed by the media and I thought that all native americans were the owners of all casinos. We have done so many things for black people and jewish people to help them get back on the feet. Now I am not in any means saying that black people or jewish people do not deserve what we have done or even that we have even done enough for them but we have not done anything for native americans. We have not even given them the consideration of telling people what actually happened in history and how they are struggling today on their reservations. It makes me so upset to get such a rude awaking We as americans are all about helping people in different countries but yet we have people living just as bad or wrost than those people living in this country but the government does not care because they know it is their fault that the native americans are living the way they are living.I am sure that many people would be willing to help but they are not even aware of what is happening to them today. I really hate my own ignorance of what is happening in my own country but I will try to gain more knowledge about native americans. But I really wish that the government will stop trying to cover up its own faults by misleading all of the americans today of what happened and what is still happening.

World In Conversation : Women: What are your thoughts on dressing up while men dress down and did they change after this lec

Once women understand that it is not their fault that these things are not their fault then they will understand that they need to change their views. When they look at the fact that men do not care what they are wearing as long as they look nice then they will realize that men like them for them and not superfical things like sexual clothes. And the men who take advantage of women or only like women how dress like that then they are not worth being a boy friend. Also I wanted to say that there is a huge line between being sexy and slutty. Women are beautiful but they have understand that they are not pieces of meat and they should be treated accordanly.

If women would just look into the minds of mens minds they would know that men only want to have sex with women that are dressed like that. Also a lot of men aviod women who dress like that because they think that they are whores or sluts and such. But the reality is that women would not dress comfortablly because they have insucurities that they try to cover by looking slutty. These views are instilled in to these girls minds since they were born and they can not control these brianwashings from the media or preexisting thoughts that are placed into their minds from their parents or people in their environment.

I think that men get to dress down because society does not put any pressure on them to look really nice or sexy. But girls are put under pressure from the day they are born to look attractive or sexy for men or to get ahead like we all see movies where the women wear suductive clothes to get good grades or a good job becaiuse the suduce the men. They are not looked at because of how smart they are because they are looked at like they are inferior to men so the only way to get ahead is to just look sexy. I also think that women have very low self esteem so they thrive off of any attention they get and if that attention is negative because the man wants to have sex with them it does not matter to them because they just mistake it for love or caring. They think that a relationship with a man is only sexual so they feel like they have to please them with the way they dress but the reality is that men do not look for that in fact they do not even care what a girl wears as long as she looks nice, but women have not figured this out quite yet.

Another thing that may hinder people a lot would be religion because when people are thinking about making a family it is hard to decide between the two religions for the kids when they are born. this can be really difficult on parents when this comes up.

I feel like if some one is truely in love then it really should not matter what other people think, but a lot of people really take it to heart what their parents feel about someone so they are more likely to side with their parents. this is why some times these relationships fail. Also like i mentioned previously there are many different cultures and it is hard to get accustomed to them in a short amount of time. This takes people out of their comfort zone so many people just stick to what they know and what they know will be accepted and that is to date within their own race. for the people who are brave enough to go with their hearts and not from what other people are saying then they often find a better understanding of different racial groups and they become better and well rounded people. I do not think that any one can truely know any thing about a culture unless the y talk to some one in it or they live the culture for a while. but since so many things hinder this many people never give it a chance.

There are many factors that make it difficult to date outside of your race because there are many differences in the cultures. Like I have noticed that there are many many differences within the different races. I have dated men from all different races and I had to adapt each time because they are all different. Also another thinkg that makes the dating difficult is the fact that many parents are still quite racist. I dated a white guy and his parents told him that they never wanted to meet me because I was too "dark" for them. which is quite funny because by the black communities stand point i am too white or light skinned to be fully black. I have also dated a puerto ricann guy and he was fairly light skinned and his grandparents told him that i looked poor because i was so dark and my hair was too kinky. Now my hair curly and my skin is lighter than most latins but they still saw me as a black girl and which meant in their time that i was poor. this is one of the difficulties because no matter how much the two people liked each othecr it is very hard to date when every one is against it.

I now do not feel guilty about my white side because even though I understand that white people have made it hard for black people to succeed but I never did that. And I never thought I was better than anyone or I competed with black people trying to take their opportunities. I now love both my sides because they are both beautiful and they both have their problems because no one person or race is perfect. I find beauty in all people but I never undermine the struggles people had to go through because of their race. I understand it’s hard to be both black and/ or white because I lived both life’s and they just live differently and have different struggles but for me to feel guilty for a whole races oppression is just crazy

I just wanted to be like everyone else and I felt like the reason people felt this way was because I was part white. I felt guilty for being half white because people thought that I was the reason they could not get ahead and they also thought that I was somehow better than them. I knew why people treated me so different because black people are not as politically correct as white people and they will tell you what they are thinking. For a while in my life I would tell myself that I would not marry any one light skinned or white because I wanted normal brown babies. That is how much I felt like I had to prove myself to the black people in my life. I went so far as to only dating dark skinned brothers even when I was attracted to other races because I just wanted to show black people that I love them. I know that is truly sad but that was my mind set.

I have somewhat felt guilty of being half white because when I was growing up in a black home I was treated differently and my foster parents consistently reminded me about all of the faults of white people and how they would never accept me even though I was half white. For that time in my life I hated my white half because it seemed like the root of all the pain and struggle of my black family. I was also very upset when I heard that light skinned people are perceived as more beautiful than darker skinned people and that once again made me upset. I was being treated differently because a lot of girls did not like me because they thought that somewhere in my head I thought I was better than them because I had light skin and light eyes and long wavy hair. I never in my life thought any crap like that because I hated my white side.

My parents live in two different worlds and I see that but they are both poor it just looks like my mom has money and my dad does not. I think that many white people do that kind of like tammy’s sons because they do not have money but they wanted it to look like they did. I think that is why not many people think about poor white people.

But when I look at my parents they are totally different because my mom will act like she has money that she definitely does not have. But my dad just does not care he does not have any money and he does not hid it. I do not know if this is a white or black difference but my mom is much too proud to admit that she does even have a home to live in, but she will give money to people who need help. I really do not understand that but it could be that she is white and proud or just a giving person who cares about others before herself. But my dad has no money and whatever he gets he keeps…shit he does not even give me any. I know this could be the result of my dad being selfish or just the fact that my dad knows I do not necessary need money up here because I have housing and a meal plan….and I think he rather use the money on having at least one meal a day for himself.

I mean it is really sad to see people live like that but the reality is that I have seen poverty all of my life and it is not a huge surprise to me that white people go through the same things my people go through. I do not think that poverty sees color but people do and the white people who are poor just hid it a lot better. See I am half white and half black and I am not ashamed that I am poor. And I am not ashamed to say that my mother who is white and my father who is black are extremely poor with making less than 5000 dollars a year.

I really was not aware of the amount of poor white people in this country. When I thought of poor people I always thought about poor minorities because that is what the media portrays. I was actually aware that there are poor white people because I know quite a few of them but they live in the cities you know in the projects or in section 8 housing. I also knew there were people who live in trailers because only someone truly stupid could be blind that this type of poverty exist, but I just did not know that there were some many people who live like tammy.

World In Conversation : Do arrests of different races occur more due to racism or more police in urban areas?- 119 Blog

I have hung out with a lot of racial groups and guess what they are all the same seriously and just because you do not do drugs do not mean people in your racial group do not. Every one has this unfair bias on colored people but for real before you speak you should evaluate your own race. I am sorry but there is a lot racism in the law system and if people can not see that then they are blind because there is no reason that the numbers should be that skewed. Just look at the stats that Sam Richards put on the slides and you have to make the same conclusion because there is not any race in this world that is more lethal or dangerous than another because we are all capable to commit crimes so there has to be a reason why only black people are being caught.

Now I know for a fact that crime happens in these areas because I have seen it with my own eyes. These people do and sell just as many drugs as the other people. I think that people think that black or Latin people are more likely to sell or do drugs which is not right because I know more white people who do drugs than blacks or Latinos. So why is that more minorities are arrested there has to be a reason. And this is where I think there is an automatic prejudice about these minorities which has some truth but not always. Therefore there definitely is some racism going on because if you go looking for crimes you WILL find it no matter the racial group. So if my theory were true which I do not know if it because I do not do research on stuff like that but if it were true then if the police would go to the predominantly white neighborhoods and they got the hell out of the black and Latin communities then the statistics will change just because they will find the same things are going on there.

I believe that the arresting of mostly black men for drug crimes is a result of both racism and the fact that there is more police force in urban areas. I say this because I am from an urban area and I see both. There are police in the “hot” spots in the city because this is where they assume that more crime will happen. Most of these “hot” spots are predominantly Black, Puerto Rican, Mexican or Dominican neighborhoods. Is this purely by chance because we have places in the city that is predominantly eastern Asian, white and Arab neighborhoods but the cops do not patrol these areas as much.

THis is a great question because both have affected me. With the hand I was dealt I have no reason why I would be here. I was born into poverity and both my parents were drug users. The neiborhoods we lived in were violence stricken and poverished like us. My parents were not good people and this is what lead me to be put into foster care at 9. This was also not a good move because the people I stayed with were just as abusive and twisted as my parents. I had 3 jobs on top of school ever since I as 12 years old. My grades suffered and I really wanted to drop out to provide for myself and my brothers. The only reason I changed was because on the opportunity I had when I got in high school. When I went to sci tech high school every thing changed because they gave a new prespective on life. The showed me I could be more than what I was desined to be. So I started to do better in school but I still had to work so I really struggled. I had many teachers that made my life easier because they gave me rides and feed. I even had a teacher that paid for me to go to the doctor because I had not gone in years and I really needed medicine because I coud not afford to miss school or work. Once my senior year in high school came around I made the choice to go to college but since I had no money I was going to enroll in to the army. At the last minute I was nominated to receive a full scholarship to penn state. I was truely blessed and after talking two the people up here at the school I was told that I would not have to work as much because they would help me and their main goal was for me to get good grades and go to grad school. Although I did not come from a good back ground I was given some opportunities and I made some choices that allowed me to succeed It really makes me made when people make excuses for their misfortune because any one can make something out of nothing. I know I am lucky to have a lot good people in my life that helpped me and moded me into the person I am today. I was handed a hand that many people in my back ground are handed but I made some thing of it. I made multiple choices that changed my life for the better but many people make decisions that are not for the better and they let the cycle of misfortune.

World In Conversation : Do You Think Race Can Stop Being an Issue in the Future?- 119 Blog

I think that eventally race will not be a problem in this world because I believe that the world is moving towards a brown color in which would make everyone mixed. When that happens we will have to stop being racist because we will all be the same. This is going to happen in my opinion because white now tan and black people now use skin bleaching creams which make them lighter. This means that people do not want to be the color that they are but somewhere in between. There is a lot more interacial marriages or just reproducing now than ever. With this trend getting more and more accepted people will begin to mix openinly and thus make a brown baby. These brown babies will continue the trend untill every one is the same. When this happens it will be impossible to racist because every one will be a like. Those there will probally be other differences that will become an issue like maybe hair or eyes but soon those traits will merge to get her and when this happens all humans will start to look a like. Now mind you this will probally happen over a course of 1000 s years. But this will happen I believe and when this happens no one will be able to be racist. But it is human nature to hate each other so we will probally find something else maybe body type or accent or something stupid like that wheich does not really matter now but when every one is a like then it will probally matter. We as humans hate our selves and we want to be something that we are not but then we hate the other person who looks different than us but soon that wil not matter and we will have to give on this stupid notion of what a perfect person is or what a perfect race is. Even though we like to think we are not racist every one is and this will only change when there is on race Monkies and animals do not think like that because all monekise look the same in relation to the other monkies so soon we will resort to our monkey roots and stop being racist because we will all be the same. It is kind of like the movie that sam richards showed us in class where it was liek we are all monkies but we all act stupid like we are not but if we would just like act like what we are than we wont have issues such as race and things liek that we will just think hey we all look the same so why do we care about that .01 percent differences from person to person
