Greg,

I would like to commend you on an excellent product. I curious why not a bigger deck on the back off the kitchen. I will mean so many steps down to entertain out back.. The firepit is great, but if I was to have a large gathering probably need a larger deck to entertain that beautiful sunset just off the kitchen. Let's party on the deck and celebrate the mathew sunset.. I can vision you and I doing that....

Next suggestion, leave the steps going upstairs exposed to the room on the right . What are your thoughts..

Great Job....

Clive,

The base of the fire place in inside of the back corner... The other question a salt treated plate and steel straps are bolted to the solid infilled block and brick foundation.. The siding will have to be removed so the steel straps can be attached to the upright studs. Hurricane protection..

They have a base of cinderblocks in the back corner of house. It is shaped like a triangle.. In my view it will be a base for some type of fireplace oven...

Excuse me instead of three column tubes it will be four. They have to put one in later. The tubes or going to hold the second floor, but that is only a guess... I really don"t know if I am suppose to tell anybody this, but it will give you a little insight on the building process... I am not privy to any information, just from what I have observed.... and an individual who really enjoys what they are doing on this project.

I want to thank the diy network for allowing me to be a involved in the 2011 Blog Cabin.. I know the project in Mathews will be a great success and make a great home for someone, I only wish it could be me. It is such a perfect place.. If you are in love with a small town living and the serene nature of mathews, very few stop lights (None within 15-20 miles) and a sunset any old sailor would die for this is it.....

It will be a solid foundation, I fail to notice if the had any flood vents....They are not bricking the back of the cottage, I assume they will have a big deck across the back towards the water...

maria,

The cabin is now down on the new foundation, looks like the will have a fireplace in the corner where the side door is located. The brick foundation does not continue around back by the water. I assume a big deck will encompass the back wall. to be seen... The other item i noticed is the top window on the front will have an arched glass top... It will really add to the house...

Ok the cottage is on its new foundation, I have a little surprise besides the three steel columns on back wall facing the water. It appears the have a foundation base in the corner by the side door, looks like a corner fireplace or an oven for baking pizzas.... Now things will start on a fast tract.. We will look forward to what going to happen next. The front will have a arched glass above the top window really will add a lot to the front...
