9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Apple starts paying $15 to each iPhone 4 'Antennagate' 'sufferer'

I'm sorry, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the strength of the signal. It is a reproducible issue. It's not as big of a deal as the media and consumer reports made it out to be but that doesn't make it any less of a real problem.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Wired also tests heat of new iPad, finds it middle of tablet road

I completely disagree with the tweet cited in the article. If you want to compare the temperature of each of the tablets, you need to compare them under as similar conditions as possible. That means running the same app on all the tablets. Yeah, you can max out the iPad and see what the temperature is but then what would you compare it to? The temperature of the iPad pushed to its limits may be the hotter than other tablets but the iPad at its limits can do things most other tablets can't even approach. So then you would be comparing the temperature of an iPad running a graphics intensive game that uses online multiplayer with 4G to a Kindle Fire which shutters at the site of Angry Birds. Of course the iPad will bet hotter.

Since each tablet would max out at different points due to differing specs, the comparison wouldn't be any good. However all current tablets, running a current game provides a fair comparison.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Stop 'heatgate' before it begins: Consumer Reports is investigating new iPad heat issues

If, with as little skin contact as my fingertip, I can drop the reception of my phone from full bars to zero, how is this not a problem? Not to mention the fact that point of interest on the phone rests in the palm of the hand of anyone holding their phone with their left hand. Not everyone using an iPhone 4 has to experience it for it to be a problem. Apple shipped enough phones that were having the issue to both place a video on their website trying to justify the problem which wouldn't have been proof of anything if they hadn't followed it with the release of a redesigned antenna that no longer exhibits the issue. It was most certainly blown way out of proportion but the problem most certainly exists.

I know you and many people around here maintain that the problem doesn't exist but I believe that to be patently false. I have refrained from addressing this issue around here but I have been able to replicate the problem on every single iPhone 4 I have come into contact with. Does that prove it's a problem with every phone? No. However, it does happen and that is a problem. Based on that fact, would I still recommend the phone? Absolutely. I, in no way, agree with Consumer Reports in that regard. The issue doesn't hinder the use of the phone to such an extent that I would say I wouldn't recommend it but it is an issue.

The reason we only pay $200 for an iPhone is because the carrier subsidizes the retail price and that is paid for overtime by being forced to get a data plan so, sadly, it is very unlikely this will happen.

Wasn't the throttling only occurring in high network volume areas? If so, they now have a license to throttle anyone who uses over 3G even if you aren't in one of these high network traffic areas.

I am not a developer but I can imagine that would be frustrating. I am not disagreeing with your other post at all, I was simply commenting on the fact that since Apple has reserved that power for themselves, it is surprising that they didn't invoke it in the first place.

Not necessarily. However, Apple does reserve the right to reject those apps should it choose too. I am just surprised that in this case, when the app in question is the primary selling point of the new devices, that Apple didn't invoke its power.

The app store guidelines stipulate that any apps that are "confusingly similar" to an existing Apple product will be rejected and that "apps that look similar to apps bundled on the iPhone" will be rejected. Considering Siri is the primary selling point for the iPhone 4S and these guidelines I can't believe it even made it to the app store in the first place.

I remember when the Mac App Store was just being rumored and people were so concerned that Apple was going to no longer allow 3rd party software unless it came through the App Store. From the standpoint of a developer forced to give Apple 30%, yeah that would suck, but for me personally, I would be thrilled to get all of my software from the Mac App Store. Updates are all in the same place, it remembers your purchases so you never have to worry about losing a CD, ect.
