Keep in mind Iran fought Iraq and defeated them. The USA backed Iraq in that war. It made no difference. The Palestinians need to be allowed to self-govern themselves and have their own nation. However, I don't believe that Jerusalem should be divided;on the contrary, it should be made the capital of Israel. With U.S. financial assistance to the newly created Palistinian state, the power of Hamas will be significantly diminished to the point that they will no longer matter.
What's standing in the way of this is Israel's reluctance to agree to a peaceful solution. Their answer to peace is to bomb Iran and kill the Palestinians. What they really want is to expand their borders. A sort of 21st century Nazi tactic.
