The daycare kids and I will be keeping tabs on this today...Hopefully we won't miss the egg hatching, that would be so neat for all of us to see!

I remember when cruising the ave used to be safe. It wasn't filled with thugs, just people who gathered to socialize. Have things changed that quickly?

Tommy- I just don't understand why it is so hard. Keep religion out of the state business and away from our tax dollars.. Religion is a deeply personal choice that the government should stay out of. The business of the government should be just that business. If individual representatives say a prayer for guidance everyday, more power to them...it just can't be government sponsored.

Why is separation of church and state such a hard concept?

H@LL No...I would never allow my child back in contact with that animal...This is beyond normal bulling, this is a physical, s e x ual assault. This criminal should not be allowed back in the school....It is a sad day when the criminals' rights are more important then the victim let alone the other students who may become his next victim.

I completely agree that the traditional letter grade is too objective but still an important part of accessing a child's schooling. I am afraid that this new system just dumbs down children into think failing is OK. In my option the traditional letter system should stay in place but then also a subjective grade given by the teacher to measure ability. There is too much emphasis on the letter grade and not enough on attention given to the effort. I personally give more praise for the C student who gives their all to keep with in that C range. A traditional B student who has the ability to be an A student is (in my opinion) unacceptable. As tax payers we finance our children to become educated. Just getting by and working the system isn't enough.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice. You are one of the reasons my kids sleep in peace tonight..
BTW--the AP needs to leave the family alone.. they will talk when they are ready.. Have some human decency.

I am disgusted by some of the comments on this topic. I agree that welfare has become a way of indulging some who refuse to take care of themselves. The lack of pride and responsibility is overwhelming. However, providing preschool opportunities for all of Iowa's children only sets them up for success. It is a matter of investing time and money into our future. We can make the commitment to our children now or pay for it with more social services and welfare later down the road. The world is a different place than it was "when we were growing up." there is more crime, less family structure and less accountability. While this is wrong, it is what it is. Our kids need this foundation to be prepared to tackle these challenges and overcome the problems set in place by our generation.

So are you in favor of privatizing all schools? Should the community serve any role in educating it's youth?

That's what I asked when applying for scholarships...The fact is that it does matter, it's not right but if you don't meet the ethnic requirements you are out of luck.
