I think this could simply be the result of cutting edge churches. No offense, I love upbeat, "relevant" worship experiences. But honestly the vast majority of these songs we are complaining about are no older than two or three years old. When the goal of a worship experience is to have only the latest, coolest songs, the worship leaders only have a small catalog of songs to choose from. Sorry, but I think that is just the way it is. There are so many great old hymns-- maybe we could dust 'em off-- jazz them up a bit. You'd have a lot more songs to choose from. Maybe we wouldn't grow tired of songs so quickly if we did not sing them so often. I guess another option would be to have a full-time composer on staff-- but who has the money for that?
