I still recommend eBay for the plastic lunchboxes that you can actually wash! Mine set me back all of five bucks plus a couple dollars shipping - well worth it!

The owner of the little horsies in today's story told me one of her critters had figured out how to open the door to the house. Horse then learned to take a shortcut through the house and back outside to a particularly desirable part of the yard, beating all her horsey competitors for the best spot. Sounded smart to me! :)

The dairy is Noris, and I'm getting the milk through the online farmer's market I'm supposed to write about one of these days, www.willamettelocalfoods.com. It is horrendously expensive in comparison with plain old grocery stores; $4 per half gallon. That's not counting the $2 bottle deposit, which you get back as a credit on your next order. I have decided that I can do, and I'm pressing onward, but heaven help me, I cannot bring myself to do most of the meat ($23 for a 3-pound chicken?). Even though I know I'd probably pay $7 for each of us for a good chicken dinner somewhere, I just can't do that every week (which is what I would need to do).

I think bungee jumping is inherently less dangerous than jumping from a bridge into a river, where the water may have changed the conditions below in ways you cannot see. But then, I've bungee-jumped and haven't bridge-jumped, so there you go. :)

It was interesting to use the pay phones they had in England back in 1989. Don't know if they're still there. You'd pop in a coin - a 50p piece, say - and talk fast as you watched your money tick down ... 49 ... 48 ... 47 ... I met a fellow Oregonian who said he liked to stick in a pound coin and call stateside just long enough to yell, "Hi! I'm in Scotland! Oh my GOD! Loveyabye."

Unfortunately, I could have written a similar lesson to a gal at my doctor's office who took a message for me one day. She had to start me over twice (the second time I spoke ver-r-ry slo-w-w-w-ly and she STILL didn't get it) and then when she read it back to me, two key facts were wrong. And two different key facts were wrong the fourth time we went through it. And this is in the MEDICAL FIELD. Good thing she isn't a pharmacist.

I got yelled at as an editor once because I wrote about a softball team that beat another softball team by something like 32 to 4, some ridiculous score like that. The coach called me - the coach of the WINNING team, mind you - and accused me of making their team sound mean.
