There are a lot of remarkable things about what happened in the senate chamber tonight, but in particular the bit about cheering was triggered by Senator Leticia Van de Putte, who said "At what point must a female senator raise her hand or her voice to be recognized over her male colleagues?"
When she said that, the gallery started cheering deafeningly loud and did not stop for more than 20 minutes.
