Jeff's A.D.D. Mind : How My Father Died

Unfortunately everything points to the nursing home. They failed to keep him hydrated which, as a result, had a cascading effect.

Jeff's A.D.D. Mind : The Power of Positive Thinking: Point - Counterpoint

My old business partner (who is, himself, ADHD) tends to be a positive thinker. Some of it has rubbed off on me. However, it's one thing to think positively...quite another to be delusional in ones positive thinking. I think aspects of my life will improve...that's not delusional. But to think Michelle Pfeiffer is going to come knocking on my door...no matter how much positive thinking I do...that's delusional.

Jeff's A.D.D. Mind : Advice for the Adult ADHD Newbie

Thanks! Believe it or not...that post came out of an email I sent to someone. Someone who was recently diagnosed with ADHD sent me an email asking for advice. The contents of that email became the post. When I was cleaning out emails I came across it and realized that it was worth saving and sharing. The sad part, for us, is that we probably need to read and reread and reread that post again and again. It may sink into our thick skulls for a day...a few days...maybe a few weeks...but eventually...it starts to fade. Oh well...that\\\'s what it\\\'s like to have \\\"a gift.\\\"

Jeff's A.D.D. Mind : Hacking Wordpress: User Profile Fields and CForms

Thank you! It's always good to hear that someone has found a post to be of use. I have not used Register Plus but, theoretically, you are correct, namely that if the form field names match...then it should prefill the data. I would probably just make sure that the field names are absolutely unique so that there no collision with anything else that may be in the tables.

I feel like my WHOLE LIFE is on "Delay." ;) No doubt that something is penetrating our thick ADHD skulls...but...boy...being an ADHDer sometimes feels like being a toddler who is learning to walk...it's supposed to become automatic and it kind of does and yet, sometimes, it just falls apart and doesn't work.

Yesterday I was listening to The Doors and wondering...what the heck is the first line to L.A. Woman? To my ears...it's incomprehensible..so...of course...I would sing "Diddle diddle diddle diddle hour ago." It ain't the words...but it's funny (at least in my mind). Turns out the first line really is, "Well, I just got into town about an hour ago."

Jeff's A.D.D. Mind : The Metamorphosis

"I read somewhere, ten years ago or so, that a sense of Time is one thing that isn't improved much by medications; not as much as, say organization." I think the medication makes you aware of Time's existence (which is essentially your observation) but it can't effect a physiological change so that we would have a sense of how much time has passed between event X and Y. What's missing physiologically is our escapement ( http://jeffsaddmind.com/the-broken-escapement-459... ) which internally measures time. That's why we need all these darned lists and reminders and so on. "My only wish? That I didn't have ADD. " Absolutely!! I wish I was religious so I could tell God to take this gift and shove it.

We don't exactly know the future but...we gain an increasing measure of control over the future over time...or that's what we believe. That's why the economic crash was so devastating and will have a profound effect on so many people. So many thought they COULD predict the future and, certainly, their economic future. That turned out to be an illusion.

Quite understandable...but then...keep in mind...you've recently run away from it. And while there is, obviously, a part of me that doesn't want to go back to that pre-cure state, nonetheless, there was a certain quality to it that is no longer a part of me. I can't go back to that state...but...well...something got lost going from pre- to post-cure. Hopefully only the "bad stuff" got lost. :D

For me...the best parts are the ring jells (of course), matzoh ball soup and very strong horseradish on the gefilte fish. A possible Jewish S.A.T. question: horseradish is to gefilte fish as sauerkraut is to hot dog. In both cases, the only reason to eat these foods is for the toppings...not the food item itself. ---- Jeff

Well...I think I prefer that label than the label of "gift." It has a slightly positive spin (that should keep the "happy talk" people...well...happy) without implying that it's something that every kid should want for Christmas. ("Ooooh! Mommy! I want the gift of ADHD! Aw...cmon. PLEASE!! Katy and Sonny have it. Why can't I get it too?
I think you'll find this piece from the Huffington Post to be quite interesting. "The idea that the minority party [G.O.P.] represents the "will of the people" (not some of the people, but "the people") is the seedling of a totalitarian mindset. In this mindset -- democracy doesn't matter, ideas are not to be discussed, and opposing views are not to respected. What matters is that they alone have truth, they alone are metaphysically connected to the "mind of the people" can interpret their will, and because they have truth and speak for the people, others represent a threat and must be silenced and stopped." [Emphasis added] See: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/james-zogby/frighte...

Jeff's A.D.D. Mind : A Message From The Nation With The Smartest People On Earth

The real problem is that you have people like Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin (and let's toss in Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh and....) who don't really take it seriously that their words have real consequences. So they will say things like "Let's string 'em up" and when someone does it they say, "Wonder where that person got that idea" and solely blame the perpetrator. The irony is that these are the same people who talk about personal responsibility but that concept NEVER applies to them.
