Actually, it is indeed paid/collected citations....not all tickets issued. I just double-checked the contract. It says this: "GATSO FEES: Gatso's fees for service under this Agreement will be paid on a service-fee-per-transaction basis of $30.00 per paid citation for Red Light Camera, Speed-on-Green, Fixed Speed Camera and Mobile Speed Camera violations."

Invisible68- The other damaged mailbox was in the 3000 block of 27th St. SW. I did not include it in the story because it was by itself. The other two spots were three in a row, and six in a row. But now you know where the 10th one was...

Tough crowd! You guys didn't like that? I'll tone it down for ya.

supervike - Nice catch on the comma. AP style says you don't put a comma before the "and" in a series, but I did overlook the other one.

As it says in the story, the line "AK-47 type" rifle was in the criminal complaint from the courthouse. We later confirmed from the Sheriff that it was an AK-47. That update should be posted soon. Thanks for reading.

Thanks for posting. We did get incomplete information from the police, and have updated the story.

We wondered that, too, at The Gazette. Capt. O'Konek is on record as saying they will be removed if they do not reduce crashes and injuries. He has said they will be continually evaluating them, but the contract with Gatso is for four years, so expect them to be here at least that long.

MBA_UIU,

You are correct that it goes from red to yellow. However, if you watch the progress of the video clip on the bar at the bottom, you'll see that at the end of the video (when red), it goes back to the first frame of the video clip (yellow). In actuality, the light did not change from red to yellow on the street. Had me wondering, though!

Grandma of 6,

Good questions. Those intersections were analyzed by police, too. You can see the numbers for all the intersections they studied in today's paper, or through the E-Edition.

Construction is planned at First Avenue East/Collins Road, so they are waiting to see if those changes reduce crashes before potentially installing a camera. As for Collins/Northland, they found mostly rear-end collisions there, as opposed to the more serious right-angle wrecks.

I moderated the chat and can tell you that we had 284 submitted comments. Capt. O'Konek answered 51 of them in the hour. Some questions that had already been asked were skipped, but for the most part, we went in order they were submitted. If you didn't get your question posed in the first 10-15 minutes, you were out of luck this time. However, another live chat like this will be held in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!
