Spark | CBC Radio : Video: Tour of the Digital Bookmobile

Tried to look for audiobooks from Vancouver Public Library (&quot;Mans Search for Meaning). Has only physical audio CD format available meaning you must visit the library to gain access to it. Altho technically I can rip the CD with my laptop easily, the site doesn&#039;t make it clear what the copy policy and legality is like. Obviously you need much research and effort to be a good citizen.

Spark | CBC Radio : Full Interview: Ethan Zuckerman on translation and the multilingual web

Thank you for your comment. Now that I have translated/reviewed a few TED talks, it is a surprisingly educational and enjoyable experience to me. Rather than watching the talks casually, now I have to analyze the speech line by line, understanding the tone and information, giving me a whole new perspective to what the speaker wanted to communicate to the audience. Also, knowing that my work will benefit many people all around the world, the feeling is just great. Quote from Philippe Starck, &quot;Nobody is obliged to be a genius, but everybody is obliged to participate.&quot; (<a href="http://www.ted.com/talks/philippe_starck_thinks_deep_on_design.html)" target="_blank">http://www.ted.com/talks/philippe_starck_thinks_d...</a> Joe: Unfortunately, I already have enough work at the moment, so I&#039;m sorry to say that I cannot take further translation jobs. Hope you understand. However, I wish from sharing my story, more people will be inspired and be able to help you.

This interview gave me the much-needed push to register as a TED translator. For years, I have never really imagined that my fluent spoken Cantonese and Mandarin, ability to read traditional and simplified Chinese, and Chinese typing skills could be the perfect combination as a translator for such beautiful project. Also thanks to knowledge openness and social collaboration, there is much less resistance for contributing to such projects than just few years ago. I am very grateful for just opportunity and timing.

Spark | CBC Radio : Starting this September, Spark gets a new timeslot and a new length

Agreed. Some interviews has multiple interesting points but got trimmed into short versions in order to fit the 30 mins limit, which often makes them sounds incomplete.

Spark | CBC Radio : The Future of Our Digital Heritage (or "Why Metadata Matters")

I think another threat to digital information is proprietary file format. If the commercial softwares that you use today to create your office documents, tax files and payroll are going to be discontinued in 10 years, what can you do to retrieve those data?

I just watched the screening of Objectified in Vancouver. Nice work! And I like your comment that even Jonathan Ive has to constantly wipe his finger print on iPhone with his t-shirt ;-)
