KOMO - Seattle, WA : Documents show CPS was warned about sexual abuse and didn\'t act | Local & Regional | Seattle News,

WA law states that the abuse must have happened. A "threat" of harm doesn't count. Actual harm does. Oregon has threat of harm, WA does not. That's the problem.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Children still be abused, dying under state\'s protection | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather

WA and OR have very different laws. Perhaps WA could change their policies and remove kids when there are "threats of harm" (like Oregon) not just "Harm" (Washington). You can have a child removed in Oregon, then move to WA, have a new baby and the state won't remove that child unless you hurt it, even if you have an open case in Oregon for abuse and a child in foster care.

KATU - Portland, OR : Couple denies injuring son as they battle state for custody | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Portland

I just read the blog. The family is doing themselves a disservice by slandering DHS and being so defensive. OHSU reported these people, DHS are required by law to investigate and state and federal law requires a process. If you want a family foster placement then call the certifiers--they're overworked. Keep requesting and make yourself available. Don't sit around waiting for a call complaining. As for the baby being removed--a foster parent can give notice when ever he/she wants. It's out of the caseworker's control. As for the parents, your child is in care. Your best bet is to complete the steps DHS requests you to do, show up to your visits and show quality parenting skills and make it clear you want to work with DHS to solve this problem. Playing victim and us against them isn't going to make things happen any sooner. If you didn't do it then follow the steps and show you're a safe parent. Ranting and raving is only going to make you look more guilty and emotionally unsafe as a parent.

Designating a Husky a dangerous dog for killing a chicken is just ridiculous. It's like designating dogs dangerous because they like to chase squirrels. A dog doesn't suddenly turn on a human for squirrel chasing nor does it for chicken killing. Stupid humans.

There is a difference between a KID and a baby or a toddler. If this was a CHILD I'd agree that the child needs to be removed until the tantrum has subsided. But if you're talking about an infant or a young toddler, there is nothing you can do to "control" your child. It's all about what is age appropriate. Babies and very young children cry and it's not possible to always stop the crying. You're talking about a child who has no other means of communication and is unable to understand "right" or "wrong" in terms of what is bothering others. And stressing out the mother is certainly a way to make the situation even worse as the child will feed off of the caregiver's stress.

There are many disabled adults living in supportive housing. That he had his own apartment doesn't mean she wasn't having to be an advocate 24 hours a day for him, handling doctors, budget cuts, meds, psych appts, and whatever else. Maybe he was being asked to leave his housing and she couldn't find anywhere for him to go, maybe he wasn't doing well and she was so worn out she had no ideas left. I don't know. All I know is that while it's a spectrum, high or low functioning things seem to go in waves and there are good periods and extremely challenging ones. Perhaps this was an extremely challenging period and she had nothing left, or maybe she was ill and was afraid for him once she was gone. It's really easy to talk about there being social services but it's incredibly difficult to access these services and if you're on SSI you can only see certain providers, there are often very long waiting lists, etc. Getting services can often be a full time job. It's easy to judge unless you've been in this kind of situation. Everyone thinks there's a safety net until they actually try to get services and see how difficult it really is. The anger people feel should be directed at budget cuts for the disabled. There is no funding for respite or many of the supportive services anymore. This is the kind of thing that comes out of all of the budget cuts.

If anything this article represents why the mom probably divorced him in the first place. He was fighting with his girlfriend, hit his kid and threw him over board for crying. Sounds like a great person, or better yet, a great person to get a divorce from. Just because you have had a bad experience doesn't mean all men are victims and the ex is a bitch. This guy sounds like a real loser, including being on probation for not paying child support in the first place.

They send out a certain number of prepackaged lunches to these sites everyday. After they run out kids are turned away. My kids have been turned away in the past. I imagine he felt like his kids were more entitled than the kids who did get a lunch (not saying it's reasonable just likely his thought process).
