Hi Trish, thanks for the question. In Australia, islets for islet transplantation can only be taken from deceased donors at this stage. It'll be interesting to see what future directions research takes however.

Hi James, we have investigated this further, and it looks like these might be your comments on one of our other posts. Please have a look here and see if these were indeed the missing comments: http://blog.jdrf.org.au/2017/04/01/fully-subsidis...

Hi James, thanks for bringing this to my attention. We haven't deleted any comments, but sometimes the system tags them as 'for approval' and we don't get a notification to say a comment has been posted when this happens. I'll have a look into this now and see if I can see them. Thanks, Alana@JDRF

Hi Pierre, thanks for your comment! We feel your frustration about the cost of diabetes technology, and JDRF and our advocates are tirelessly working to advocate for better access for Australians to life-changing technology. We’re excited about the Government’s recent commitment to investing $54 million to subsidise continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology for children and young adults under 21 years old facing extra challenges managing their type 1 diabetes, and hope to see the program rolling out soon. This is great news, but certainly not the end of our efforts. You can see more about what’s happening in our Advocacy program, or join the team, at https://www.jdrf.org.au/get-involved/government-a...

Hi Rahul, I'm so sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis. At JDRF, we offer a Peer Support service to our newly-diagnosed families to help you transition to this new way of life, and provide ongoing support. The program will connect you with an experienced volunteer who has personal experience living with type 1 diabetes, and can give practical help and advice, or even just lend an understanding ear. If you'd like to learn more about this program, please reach out to us on peersupport@jdrf.org.au

Hello, and sorry to hear about your nephew's diagnosis. I agree it can be a scary and overwhelming time for the whole family. It sounds like your sister could potentially benefit from JDRF's Peer Support Program. This free program is a volunteer network that connects newly-diagnosed families by phone with a volunteer who has been there, and can give practical help and advice. If you're interested in finding out more, you (or your sister) can drop an email to our lovely Peer Support team on peersupport@jdrf.org.au and they'll be able to chat further. Thanks and good luck.

Hi Mimi, thanks for your question. Currently, the Freestyle Libre flash glucose monitors aren't approved for use in children in Australia. Keep an eye on the manufacturer's website though, as the best place to find updates on if this changes.

Hi there, thanks for your feedback. It's really important to us at JDRF to have our finger on the pulse of issues that will impact the T1D community. We feel this is an important conversation to be a part of.

Hi Ben, no official statement of support from ALP has been made as yet. However, we are very hopeful the Labor party will match the commitment of the Coalition.

Thanks Chris, JDRF is applauding the outcome too, and redoubling our efforts to secure a similar commitment from the Labor party as soon as possible. In actively seeking bipartisan support from the ALP, we need the help of the T1D community.
Thanks Robyn - good point. We are excited about this announcement, but realise that this technology will still remain out of reach for some groups, including pregnant women with T1D. We are hopeful that this program will provide a great platform to show how effective CGM is, and to use that evidence to extend access to CGM for other age groups over time, to enable as many people as possible the benefit of this life-changing technology. Still, it is a big step forward to secure a funding commitment for CGM for people under 21, and we are very aware of that.
