Hi Trish, thanks for the question. In Australia, islets for islet transplantation can only be taken from deceased donors at this stage. It'll be interesting to see what future directions research takes however.

It sounds like your sister could potentially benefit from JDRF's Peer Support Program. This free program is a volunteer network that connects newly-diagnosed families by phone with a volunteer who has been there, and can give practical help and advice. Hi Mimi, thanks for your question. Currently, the Freestyle Libre flash glucose monitors aren't approved for use in children in Australia. Keep an eye on the manufacturer's website though, as the best place to find updates on if this changes.

Thanks Robyn - good point. We are excited about this announcement, but realise that this technology will still remain out of reach for some groups, including pregnant women with T1D. We are hopeful that this program will provide a great platform to show how effective CGM is, and to use that evidence to extend access to CGM for other age groups over time, to enable as many people as possible the benefit of this life-changing technology. Still, it is a big step forward to secure a funding commitment for CGM for people under 21, and we are very aware of that.
