I have found that most people involved in an affair won&#039;t come to grips with the pain they are causing until they experience a tremendous amount of pain themselves. Most often, it seems like that pain comes in the form of the affair not working out the way they wanted. All of a sudden&hellip;the blinders come off, and they start to see the situation a bit more as &quot;reality&quot; than the &quot;fantasy&quot; that they&#039;ve been living in. For your own sanity, it may require a bit of distance from your friend. That doesn&#039;t mean that you don&#039;t love them or don&#039;t want to be with them, but their drama could be too intense at this season of life. You don&#039;t need to tell them that you&#039;re creating some space, but they&#039;ll start to feel it if you quit asking about their relationship, quit pursuing them to check in, and quit being willing to dialogue as if life is normal. If you stay connected in a healthy way, you&#039;ll have a chance to be with them when everything ends up falling apart.
