If you point a gun at someone and scream, "I have a gun, leave my house now!" and that person continues to advance, you are completely reasonable in believing that that person is a danger to you (if that person breaking and entering into your house isn't enough to make you think that. And I TRULY doubt you wouldn't be scared if someone broke into your house).

"How many non-drunken home intrusions per year in Boulder result in the homeowner being threatened, assaulted, or killed? "

The degree of self defense you are allowed to use is not predicated upon the history of violence in the area. Many people have lost their lives because of the complacency a lack of eventfulness causes. It's what cause 9/11. No one had EVER flown planes into buildings before, so how could we justify taking measures to prevent it?

It doesn't matter that most drunken home invasions do not lead to assaults on homeowners. What matters is that there is always that possibility. And since they didn't know this was some drunk bink and not someone there to murder them, and since the law state unequivocally that homeowners have an expectation of absolute safety in their own homes, this was absolutely justified.

So you think drunkenness is a reasonable reason to trespass.

Why lock the door when you have a gun?

"Garnett is willing, as you are, to let bullies with guns get a free pass when they choose, yes choose, to behave as thugs. Sad.."

Bullies and thugs actively seek out people to victimize. They don't lie in their beds waiting for people to break into their houses so they can shoot them.

"Interesting that b/c of past experience with a stalker, they keep a loaded gun in the bedroom but don't lock their doors or have a security system for a lavish home."

Locks may keep stalkers out of your house (or at least slow them down), but guns are great for permanently solving the problem. If you don't want to get shot, don't stalk, and never EVER break and enter into someone's house.

And legally, you're under no obligation to lock your door and not doing so does not change the criminal liability of the criminal who trespasses into your home.

I like just getting to the point. If you come into MY house in the middle of the night, you are getting shot....and NOT in the hip.
