I think that the reason is because white men are sometimes a little afraid of change in “their world”. They may feel a certain way about minorities but be too afraid to speak to them because of what “their people” think. They are so wrapped up in what their parents might think or their grand parents. So when they are drunk they have no filter and they actually express their true feelings. I feel like you should be able to love, like, feel whoever you want to and no excuses. This world is so upsetting when we think that we have to be with “our kind”. Excuse my language but who the fuck made up that rule. Its crazy the way that our society really tired to make us stay with our culture. When I was in middle school, I was the only black girl in my entire middle school and so many of the white guys where mean to me and told me that their parents told them being black was ugly so in their minds it was already set that I was ugly because I was clack. Doing that to someone is very damaging to their lives. It took me a long time to over come my insecurities. When I got to school and I used to hang out with my whit friends and go to the frats their was always one drunk white guy that would tell me I was pretty but I didn’t pay it any mind because I knew when he was sober again he would not be able to tell me I was pretty even if he wanted to. I think another factor is that some of the white guys are scared to approach minorities because they don’t want to think that they are invading “our worlds”. They don’t want to think that because they are not apart of our race or ethnicity we wont talk to them. So when they are drunk that is the only time that they can work up the nerve to ask us anything or tell us that they think we are “hot”. We are so wrapped up in what others may think that we cant even follow or own hearts or minds. We think that other peoples opinions matter more then our own. How can you live by someone else’s thoughts and how can you every be truly happy listing to what somebody else may have to say negatively about your feelings or thoughts. I’m tired of the world and how society wants it to be run. We have free will but we need to stop being afraid of running our own lives without thinking about society first.

I would let everybody to know that accepting people should not be the way that they look or what they like or believe it but who they are as a person. I feel that our world is so big on pre judging. We prejudge automatically like it is programed in us. I think that our world would need to here that. We hang out with people, talk to people that we think that we feel “comfortable” with. We think that being “comfortable” are the people that look and act like one another. We ignore that fact that people are people and you can find that “comfortable” satisfaction in people of other races. We get so caught up in how we think that we are supposed feel about certain people. When if you gave people a chance to open up to people of a different race then you may find what you need in someone you never thought that you would. If I had to choose a venue of art to choose I would choose a dance theatre. I feel that dance is the best way of communication. I feel like there is so much to say behind a dance moves. And I feel like dance is the one art that connects to all the other arts in a way. So that if you were bind in this world and couldn’t see the dance performance, the music selection for the dance number would be able to move. I would a dance theater as a dance is the form of act that I think gives the most emotion and really draws people in. it would give the emotion that people needed to feel to get interested in whatever the dance is about. People would be drawn in by the dance and the emotion that they would want to feel. I think that this message is a good message because it a powerful one that I think everybody could change to live by. People need to hear something that is capable of happening and moving. If its not then you don’t have peoples attention. I think that this would be a message that people could achieve and be very happy with the results. This may seem like a cliché thing to say but I think that is something that out country is slowly becoming to achieve. I feel that if we all know that we all feel the same way we would try to find someway to make this announcement of mines come true. There is more to life then the people that look exactly the same as you. We all can be truly equal when we allow ourselves to connect with someone that does look and think the same ways that you do.

I take the information that we learn in class and really take time to think about it. I feel that in life you must try to understand as much as you can so that you are ready for what life throws at you. I never really heard of affirmative action until we were talking about it in class and really breaking it down. I liked that Sam had two people come up in class and make them figure out how they thought in each situations so that we as a class could understand affirmative action. I feel like in every class Sam brings up something that is worth thinking about after class. What he says really makes you want to dissect it because it’s really caught your interest. It is opening up a different world of ideas for us. And I personal like to learn new things and learn how I can apply them myself. So I like that Sam always say things that leave you thinking that he is crazy or all over the place. I love learning things like that because it makes you really think about how it may apply to you. When people say that college really helps you grow up its because of classes like this that makes us grow up. The ideas that are thrown at us just make us interested and makes up think on another level. And once you are thinking on that level, you are really growing up and learning more about life and how you want to live your life. When you know what life will throw at you (kind of because God plans what’s thrown at you) and you will know how to handle the problems. I like that we talk about how equal things are not. It makes you really see how everybody is thinking about a certain situation. And people at every race at that. The class is a very good class for all majors and ethnicities. I always feel more comfortable and open when I return to another class. We have to open our minds at all times when you are I the class so it makes me more comfortable. You have to open up in this class to be able to understand fully what is going on in every class. Even though a class may be on one topic its makes you think about that topic at all different angels so that you open your mind. Once you understand how to open up your mind for the class, then you can understand all that is being explained in class. I think that it is a good thing that Sam does when throws out so many ideas and is 100% real about what he is talking about in class.

I think that the US is not concerned about themselves and what they benefit from that they would really care if they found out. I feel like yes there would be some American like myself that would want to help Haiti because of the poor conditions they are under; I think that since we are benefited enough we could help a little bit more so that they wouldn’t be going through such a depression. There are people over in Haiti that can’t eat everyday or feed their family and its more people like that there then here in the US. I feel that if more people knew about what Sam exposed to us in class there would be no change in what America does with Haiti. I feel like America would still try to sell their rice to Haiti and jip Haiti farmers out of their money that they could earn. Because if its keep America ahead of other countries there is no way that they are going to stop what they are doing. I feel that out country is a very selfish country. Even though selfish is good sometimes for a country it can also be bad because we are not helping others that could really use our help and we are kind of cheating them out of their money. I know that we are not in the best shape as a country ourselves but we are in good enough shape to not cheat Haiti out of their money. I feel like it is so unbelievable that we are really making Haiti buy our rice instead of buying the rice that the Haiti farmers make for their country. I wonder how America really feels about what they are doing or if they even really realize it. I just can’t wrap my head around the idea that America is doing this to such a poor country. I know that we want to have the ultimate power so that no one has power if us but we could either give Haiti rice for free or pay for the Haiti farmers rice at a bigger price. People like me I know are thinking about the ways that we could help instead of hinder. I know that they are thinking about how bad it is what America is doing to Haiti. I feel like I would want to go over to Haiti and help them with anything that they need help with because I feel so bad about what the US is doing to their country. There are things that the US really needs to look at to see if they are really doing a good thing for Haiti or if they are hindering them.

There are many different things that come to my mind when I am interacting with people of a different race then me. I think about what they might think of me. I know that there are people that give different ethnic backgrounds stereotype; so when I’m talking to them I wonder if they think I am judging them or think about a stereotype for them. I feel like everybody is prejudice, everybody thinks something about somebody before they interact. I don’t feel like it so much a race issue just that everybody prejudges. We think that we have a reason to prejudge though. If you’ve never spoken to or interacted with someone how can you say how he or she may act or interact with you? Same thing if it was two different ethnicities interacting how can you say how this one person will act or interact by their culture. Their culture should not be the thing that describes them. People are people and if you have all these prejudgments about a person you will never be able to fully except them as who they really are. So we I see somebody that clearly has a different no I don’t interact with them differently because I am a person who excepts all and listens to everybody; I don’t think that just because you are another race I should act different around you. If I do that I am not only disrespecting the person of the other ethic background but I’m disrespecting myself by allowing myself to act a different way around somebody of a different ethnic background then me. I think that that says a lot about your character and who you are as a person if you choose to act different around people because they don’t share the same ethic background as you. I also have a very big heart and never want anybody to feel like I haven’t given them a chance to show me who they are before I prejudge. I wouldn’t want anybody to do that to me or treat me a different type of way because of my ethnic background. It has happened to me before and it’s a terrible thing to have to go through as a child. As a kid (well for me) I felt like I had a lot in common with the other kids in my ALL white school, the only difference was our skin color; kids though that me being a different ethnicity was enough for them to shun me and exclude me from activities or friendships. I feel that everyone should pretend that the whole world wore paper bags over there head when they met people and had conversations that way.

I feel that people in our society that do not identify themselves with being Gay/ lesbian/ or bi can make things better by accepting the gays/lesbians/or bi. The people that are not against the gay community need to have a voice as well. They need to have a voice that will protect the gay society. They need to know that there are people out here that don’t identify as gay that are on their side. If you think about it the reason why coming out is so hard is because of the non-gay community. The gays are bullied and teased by out society around them. They need to feel like all of the non-gay society is not the people that are against them and will bash them for being gay. Personally I support the gay community, I have many friend that are gay and have come out if the closet while I was gaining their friend ship; so I have seen that hate and hurt that they feel when they feel like everyone around them is against them because of there sexual identity. That is the reason why they contemplate on killing themselves or not coming out because they can’t handle the opinions of the people that are not gay. They feel that they will not be able to be happy because people around them will not like them. So I feel that the people that are supporters of the gay community need to be making an action for the gays so that can feel a little bit of sense of comforting. They need to know from us gay supporters that we will help make it better. We need to assure them that they will always have someone to talk to. And more importantly they will always have someone that cares about them regardless of what sexuality they would like to identify with. It means a lot to the gay community when they know that they can have comfort and friend ship with people that are not gay, it give them a sense of “normality”. Our comfort and friendships o they will make a huge difference to the gay community, more they we will see. One person that will support you with whatever gives you hope that others will come around and accept you and what you are. Another thing that we can do is to talk other people that are not gay to support the gays; we can help get others to jump on board with help making it easier for gays to come out. Just because they are different does not mean that they should have to suffer with not having any kind of support system behind them.

I personally have struggled with an idea for my whole life. I am about to get very personal. When I was in the first grade I would not be included in our reading sessions: Instead I would be EXCLUDED from all the other children and labeled as a child that was not up to par with her 2nd grade reading level. I articulate the word EXCLUDE because it was known to the other students that I had to be taken out of class because of my lower reading level. So in the 3rd grade I had to leave my elementary school Friend Select and enroll in a school for children that are not mentally ill but just learn at a different pace then other student. Fast forward present day, I told my boyfriend about the special schooling I went to and the therapy sessions that the school provided and he was shocked. He let me know that I was not the only person at this school that has been in my position; students that are enrolled as a child with out a disability because in reality it isn’t a disability its just a different way of learning and performing in school. Society labels it has a disability because it isn’t the same way “a normal person” would learn or perform. I believe that when people are lacking in education their creative part of the brain is stronger. I can prove my own hypothesis to be true to my character and skill. This may not be true all around but I feel like it is for me. Well actually I do believe that this applies to everyone else because in believe everybody is very good at at least one thing. I dance, that is my passion and something that I totally believe is my calling. I have wonderful parents that have put me in the proper schooling for me to be successful in my education as well; even though I have to work at it a little harder then others. But dance is my first love and the thing that I am most passionate about. So I believe that even though society makes people like me think that its only me going true this and just wanted to graduate school (even though you have to work harder and sometimes you don’t feel like fighting something that you struggle with) and do what I love; there is always a sociologist saying that there are many more people just like me in the same situation and everything which means that is nothing really wrong with me.

I feel that more of us need to be put on the spot because like Sam said in the very first lecture “we don’t say things that need to be said”. So I feel like putting a person on the spot is making them think in a different when then they would normally think. I feel like people are rehearsed and always ready to say what they already thought about; when your put on the spot you don’t have time to think about what you are going to say or want to say. I was glad that he put her on the spot.
But for the question that he asked her I feel like that was an interesting question. I feel like we all don’t know what races, ethnicities, or cultures in us we only know what we have been told or are used to. I also believe that in our generation we are all mixed with all different kinds races.
When thinking about this topic it makes me think about when people say that they are mixed with all of these different things but only like 1 % of all of those races. I don’t know weather to tell them to just claim what they are most of or to be proud to have other races in you. I also feel like people use there other races to say that they are better then other. For example if there are two black guys and one lack guy says well I'm 15% white sooo…. That doesn’t make you any better then somebody it just makes you different. I feel like people get that mixed up, that race is something to be proud of not something to throw in some bodies face because they you are abusing it.
Race is not something that you should take lightly because is apart of you and your foundation. It doesn’t matter or make you better then anybody else is your foundation is different from their it just makes you two different.
I also feel that people say they are other races to sound more attractive. If you are attractive you are attractive if you’re not then your nice. You cant think that telling somebody that you have a certain amount of white in you is going to make them think you are more or less pretty, maybe more or less like you but it wont change the way you look just by saying that.
I take race very serious and I think that I am mixed down the line but when somebody asks me what am I? I identify myself as a black African American. I could be more I could be less but that’s how I identify myself as an individual.

Race is a word that is used very generally in our generation. I feel like race is not as important to young people in this generations as it used to be. I feel that race is something that should continue to be important. I don't feel like you should wait for something bad to happen, that makes you upset and insulted for you to make you race important. Race means everything to me. I feel like my race is the reason why I am where I am today. I feel like race is the reason why I can be in class sitting amongst white, black, Asian, and all other races. I feel that in our generation we tend to forget that our history of our races are the reason why we are how we (different races) are today. In another blog it was said that race can not be defined and I agree all the way. I feel that race is whatever one decides it to be. You decide how you appreciate it and want race means to you and how it effects you as a person.

Race shouldn't make you want to hibernate to others that are your race and exclude other races. But I do believe that race is a very nice way to connect with others that are the same race. The connections that you have with people that are your race are very powerful when you all appreciate your race.

My parents have always taught me that race is important. I am African American and I am very proud of my race. I'm not just proud because of everything my race has been through but my journey throughout my years on this earth as an African American. Race is not just about the history but how you think about race to you as a person.

Race is something that you are born with. It's given to you and it's nothing that you have to work for. It's something that you have a choice to either let it be something that is apart of you or something that is a part of you that means something to you.

When I think about race I think about culture. I feel like culture and race are two different things but are similar in some ways. Culture is what race is but race is what society calls culture. I feel like culture (race) is a way to describe you.

Sam lets us all know in class the race is important and everybody has something to say about their race. Just because you are not the minority race does not mean that you have nothing to say about race. Race is not something that people should pass by about not being important. Race is very important and needs to be more prominent in this generation.
