There IS an increasing note of querulousness in a lot of the articles, a whiny kind of sound and fretting over minor points. Maybe the need to produce fresh copy trumps effective journalism. And there have been two items that I know of that have been just flat-out WRONG: the story of "fear of government" being classified as a mental illness (it was a satirical story on an obscure right-wing blog) and the story on "151 million Americans not paying taxes" (many of those 151 million are obviously non-earners such as children and the handicapped etc). I want factual stories, not indoctrination and dissembling.

The Afghans of course are not going to see the distinction - they'll never know the facts at all, and if they did well, they aren't acting rationally but just venting hatred for Westerners. As for the rest of us, the question of whether Afghans desecrated the Korans first is moot: our Liberal values make burning a book, even a holy book, seem like a non-issue. And neither the President nor the media have any business issuing PR spin to rationalize the incident; we just have to evaluate the consequences and decide where to go from here.
