You are so right about the money, but I don't think they voted yes because of that. The debate about gay marriage in the state church (Church of Sweden) has been going on for a long time and there is an increasing number of gay priests on higher posts within the church. Sweden is also heading in the right direction when it comes to human rights for gays so this is a huge step for the entire gay community. Some years ago a gay artist and a Christian produced a photo exhibition picturing Jesus as a gay man. Back then most Christians went totally bananas over this and I'd say this event kinda started a movement among Christian gays. The exhibition was a wake-up call for the church, I believe. This summer the Stockholm Pride festival was the biggest so far, which also is a sign of a state church "softening up" a bit. So I hope this is the result of people waking up and not the need for money. Oh, if you want to see some of the photos, check them out here. Atheist Revolution : Health Care: Right or Privilege?

Just a quick shout from Sweden. Here health care is a part of our social welfare system and paid by taxes. That means that I pay a fee of $14 each time I visit the doctor and/or get treatment. I am about to have a gastric bypass surgery in a couple of months and all I pay is $9 per night spent in hospital. To me there is not question about contributing to the wellness of my fellow countrymen and I am gladly paying our high taxes to ensure good welfare, education and community service.

Milla, du missar min poäng. Okej om det är en teater som på den gamla goda shakespear-tiden där män spelade kvinnor. Nu har jag inte uppfattat att det är så beträffande Lucia. Lucia må vara en tradition, men en sådan som bygger på en kvinnlig historisk karaktär. Jag om någon är för jämlikhet och du säger det själv: det är en tradition att Lucia är/var en kvinna. Poängen var att i mina öron så är, om vi ska prata grammatik, Lucia ett kasus av sorten femininum på samma sätt som drottning, princessa och nunna. Alltså titlar på kvinnliga titeltagare. Jag ser helt enkelt ingen anledning till att en man skulle ta kvinnans roll (trots jämställdhetsperspektivet), däremot kan man väl starta en ny tradition och fixa en manlig ljusbärare och skriva om luciasångerna till "han kommer med ljuset hit". Det köper jag, so be my guest...
