Breathing Korean : 타루

Same here, re: Anki. I've gathered 165 sentences this way, with audio. I've got a ways to go since I'm still on level 2. Thanks for the movie link. I've seen My Sassy Girl and a couple of others, but not much else. d-addicts.com is great. Forgot to mention it, but that's where I've been getting my dramas. I'll have to check out Iris and Fight. Repeating Iyagi is great. I haven't been doing it while I sleep but maybe I should.

A little over 10 weeks in, I'd say it's going well. I actually held off of TTMIK for the first month or so, and I only add a lesson's worth of sentences a day to my deck. I'm thinking of stepping that up now that there are tons of words/phrases that I recognize by sound but do not know the meaning of. Do you listen to TTMIK's Iyagi podcasts? (http://www.talktomeinkorean.com/category/shows/iyagi-intermediate/) Those are pretty much my bread and butter right now. I've watched some dramas and movies, have some K-Pop albums, and also listen to this podcast at times: http://sadgagman.tistory.com/ I could definitely stand to find some more podcasts but it's difficult to do without Korean literacy. I've watched tons of MBN (and some other channels) off of this site: http://wwitv.com/television/112.htm Unfortunately most of the best broadcasting is during the night here. It's definitely hard to find stuff for a language like Korean, but c'est la vie.

Breathing Korean : If It's Good Enough For A Child...

Hmm.. I swear I responded to this before, but oh well. Just in case.. No, I'm not really sure I have a preference at this point. I may develop an age preference as I gain experience, but at this point I'm open to teaching at any level. How is your spoken Korean? Are you able to converse with Good Man?

Thanks for the information. I knew a little bit about Jeju-do, but hadn't really thought too much about accents in places other Seoul. Either way, I too get excited about languages and Korean and I enjoy the discussion. I don't have teaching experience per se. However, I have worked as a marching technician with two high school marching bands over the course of three seasons, and I worked as an assistant site director for a Boys and Girls Clubs afterschool program for two years, including a summer camp. I hope that counts for something, but I'm pretty much open to being placed wherever they'll have me. I read a decent amount of your blog the other day and I guess I'm confused. Did you move back to the States in order to take care of Good Man's citizenship?

Were you teaching at a 학원? I'm planning on applying through EPIK, so hopefully I won't have to deal with issues like the ones you experienced. I have to say that the task of learning Korean is still pretty daunting for me, and I'm sure it will continue to be for a long while. However, I more or less plan on dedicating my life to picking up the language once I get over there. I can't wait.

I do know about Drama Fever, though I've mostly been downloading dramas from d-addicts.com. Thanks for the comment. For how long have you been learning Korean?

Spanish Only : Stick to One Dialect, Stupid!

Agreed. Luckily, I had a natural aversion to dialects other than the one I was shooting for (Mexican). Not because I thought they sounded bad or anything, but because I always found it frustrating to listen to them. Listening to Don Francisco (who is Chilean), especially, would make me turn off Sábado Gigante quickly out of frustration.

Breathing Korean : 안녕하세요

Thanks! Basically because there's a great situation over there for teaching English. They provide housing, healthcare, pension, etc. I had originally planned on teaching somewhere in Latin America, but it's pretty difficult to get started doing that without a fair amount of savings, not to mention most countries won't issue work visas. Mexico will, but my parents weren't too keen on having me travel there with the drug war situation being what it is right now. When I was learning Spanish I'd always thought that my next language would be Mandarin, and if nothing else Korean is a step toward that. In any case, I'll be able to save some money while teaching in Korea, which will allow me to dictate my next move without having to rely on money from my parents to support myself. The thing is, if I'm going to be living in a foreign country for a year, there's NO way I'm not going to try to learn the language of that country. Korea seems like the clearest direction for me going forward, so it's the Korean language I will be learning.
