Andrej770, I am in the SAME boat as you are.

I cannot get my friends 3GS to work. Phone is 3.01 on the correct baseband OTB. Never been pwned before. On a mac using pwnagetool 3.1.4.
The phone get the payload, and if i try restoring from itunes using the custom firmware pwnagetool made, i get error 1640 or 1600, i forgot.
That is probably because pwnage wont detect my phone and put it into dfu after it delivers it.

My phone has the itunes logo and the cable. no slide to unlock or anything. holding the power and home button for 10 seconds doesnt really work. it just immediately jumps back to that screen. regardless, pwnage needs to detect it so it can deliver the gooods (payload)

I thought you Apple had to sign the ECID at least once? which process does that?

Could you guys clarify something for me?

I am in the US, and have the opportunity to buy an iPhone 3GS 32gb locally. The phone is sealed, but I will open it to check the contents. Anyways, I am assuming that means the phone has not been activated. How do I activate the phone if I am not an ATT subscriber? I currently have tmobile. My brother has a 3gs, but he has ATT, do I put his sim in my phone and activate it like that? Like as if its his backup phone?

I understand that I MUST activate to get the ECID signed by apple. Only then can I backup/dump the thingamajig.
