From my perspective the leaders are all here, but still testing the waters and testing themselves. I think there are a lot of people on here, like me, who didn't know much about politics, didn't care much about them and didn't contribute much to what should be a vital and ongoing conversation about out country. But we have woke up (started before 9/11 for me), and are now ready to do something. But it takes time, and it takes developing skills that have been latent or non-existant. It also takes overcoming ourselves and standing up for what we believe in. It's happening though. It is. But this site is a tool, not an answer. In general most people in the US have basic health superior to other countries, which doesn't mean people wouldn't die during a pandemic, but that we have a better chance of survival than people in third world countries (like Mexico) because we eat better and have a better sanitation system. As for Iowa, I wish the administration would pay attention - I live in Iowa (originally from SoCal) and I have friends in other states who had NO CLUE what we went through last summer b/c the media didn't cover it. And it's not over by a long shot. BUT the most important thing people could learn from watching Iowa during the flood is that when people take responsibility for themselves and neighbors it's something to celebrate. No one waited around to be saved. Everyone did what they had to do. No whining. That's what America IS like, but the media and the administration do not want any of us to realize how resilient and self-reliant we are.
