Function REQ's -- To be able to preserve the baseband 1. Have redsnow remove the baseband check in 4.2.1 2. Instead of having it automatically hactivate a phone, make it an option, because itunes wont activate it if it still has the baseband check in it. Step 2 can be removed if step 1 only removed the bootrom check, and not jailbreak, then you would activate it, and then JB the phone. I was able to preserve my baseband and do a untethered JB. Here is the long process 1. Get the custom bundle for pwnage tool. Use the newest pwnage tool. Install that to your phone.(Cant post URLS, so you will have to google "iphone 4 4.2.1 bundle". Should be the first hit. It will be on the blogsdna site.) Don't mess with it's tether boot process. It will boot just fine(Non JB apps), and it will retain your old baseband. After it is boots up, let itunes activate it (If you still have the original sim) Then turn off the phone. 2. get the latest untethered Redsn0w (I used beta 3, but beta 4 should be fine). Run it, and only select "Install Cydia". After it is done, turn off the phone. 3. Run redsnow again, and select "Tethered boot only". Then boot the phone, and load cydia. Do the complete updates, Let it reboot, then turn off the phone. 4. Run RedSn0w again, and only select the JB Monty option (Untethered JB) 5. Boot up your phone. You should be all good, and you can install Ultrasn0w for unlock if needed. I ended up putting 4.1 back on, because of broken skype, Winterboard themes not working completely (a 4.2.1 issue, not a untethered issue.), and other littie glitches due to 4.2.1, not the untethered process. It was a good test :)

Get rid of 4.0.1. Use pwnage tool, and create a custom 4.1 IPSW, Or install Tiny umbrella, and put 4.1 on your phone, and JB with redsnow, limera1n, or Greenp0ison. Right now 4.1 is solid, and stable. I tried the 4.2.1 Untethered JB, and it workes, but there is still tons of JB apps that need to be updated to work right for 4.2.1. (Even did it preserving my baseband. not an easy feat)

I have the iPhone 4 since the first week. I have these saved: iPhone4 4.0 (8A293) iPhone4 4.0.1 (8A306) iPhone4 4.0.2 (8A400) iPhone4 4.1 (8B117) iPhone4 4.2.1 (8C148) iPhone4 4.2b3 (8C5115c) I have a Macbook 2.4 ghz. Snow Leopard, and all the latest updates. I have 4.1 running right now. Did try 4.2.1, but tethered sucks. I still have the 01.59.00 Baseband. Unlock isn't that important. Not leaving the country till march at the earliest.

Everyone is!!!! The iPad has a different GPS chip, so there is no REAL GPS with the 6.15.00 firmware!!! The phones that have "Working" GPS, are just triangulations of cell towers, and WiFi signals.

Sure. There will most likely be a unlock out before your trip. So Leave it alone, and don't sweat it till your trip. if there isn't an unlock by then, you will have to get the 6.15.00, or get a crappy phone to use over there.

IF you load Tiny Umbrella, and use ANY 3G it will save all the SHSH's from 4.0 to current. I even tried making up numbers to test it. like 3987654321000. I even did 3987654321001 and 3987654321002. Populated ALL of them!! So that means that with a 3G, you can put any Apple IPSW on it you want still. Tried 3987654321003 as a iPhone 4, and it only got the SHSH for 4.2.1, so it looks like apple stopped signing 4.2b3

It will only upgrade the BB to the BB in 4.0.1, which it fully supported by ultra snow. You should probably load tinyumbrella, and save your SHSH's for your 3G. Every 3G I have tried always has all of it's SHSH's available, including the ones that have never been jailbroken... Go figure. SHSH's aren't really important for the 3G, as it is only implemented in software form, not hardware like the 3Gs, or 4. As long as you are using a 4.0.x Apple IPSW, you are safe for your BB. Just make sure you use a custom IPSW for 4.1 or 4.2.1

Same as the Custom, Just hit Shift-restore on windows, or Option-restore on a mac, then elect the 4.0.1 IPSW from apple. The Apple IPSW's don't need DFU to restore them. After you restore 4.0.2, you will need to use Redsnow to put the phone in DFU mode to flash the your custom ROM.

Download the 4.0.1 ISPW (search iclarified iphone firmware in google to download it) and flash your phone with that. It sounds like youe Baseband might be currupt, but this will reflash it, and keep it to a version that is unlockable. Then after that, upgrade it to the custom 4.2.1. Although, since there are a bunch of programs in Cydia that arent compatible with 4.2.1, you might just want to download 4.1, and make a custom IPSW in pawnagetool for that.

Might want to update it to show how to show the SHA1 hash you downloaded so you can verify it.... If you ever wonder how to check SHA1 sum on OS X, here is how. Open up a Terminal window. Change the directory to the file location. Issue the following command. openssl sha1 filename The openssl can also check the following digests: md2, md5, mdc2, rmd160 and sha. This is useful when you download some files not from the original sites and you want to check the integrity of the files. I was trying to download the Pwange tool using bit torrent client. After the download was complete, I was surprised to find that the file has been tampered because the checksum is different. I heard that there are increasing interests in the hacker communities about iPhone and Mac OS X. Maybe this is a sign. You might want to check your downloads from now on.

The Unlock will NOT come out until after the official 4.2 comes out. They are saving the Baseband exploit till after it is out, otherwise in 2 weeks, there will be a whole new onset of people wanting a Unlock. Better to save the exploits. Don't want Apple to finally comeout with a un-unlockable Baseband!!!

If you have your SHSH's backed up, you could restore the stock 4.0.1 or 4.0.2, and that will reflash your baseband, and make sure that is all clean. Have the AT&T sim in there, and connect it to iTunes to only have it activate the phone. Dont set it up, or restore from a backup yet. This will have the phone it a pure state. Then jailbreak it either with jailbreakme, or limera1n. Once you get cydia on there, open cydia, and have it update all the updates. after it reboots, go into cydia, and install ultrasn0w. Then put in the t-mobile SIM. If it is still not working, then maybe t-mobile is blocking your ECID on your phone.

Pay $2 for TetherMe on cydia. IT is well worth EVERY penny!!! IT automatically uses the APN of whatever your phone uses for the internet. So if you can use the internet on your phone, you can tether. If your phone is unlocked, you can get a prepaid SIM while traveling, and get a internet addon, and tether. No need for custom IPCC, or going to the BenM site to some how enable tethering.

SInce it is a 3G, there is a slim chance it has bootloader 5.8 instead of 5.9. So go into cydia and install fuzzyband. It will tell you if you have the right bootloader, and if it does, then you can downgrade your baseband, and be back in business!!!! But if the 3G wasn't one that was release in the first few weeks, then you are most likely going to have to wait till after 4.2 comes out.
