You´re right Dave. It´s NOT the performers responsibility. A live music venue is SUPPOSED to pay a yearly fee to ASCAP,BMI,SESAC, etc. to be split with songwriters. Most do this, but, as you´ve already guessed by now, too many venues also don´t know the meaning of the word THEFT.

gwar5 I´m not Hollywood. I´m Nashville, Muscle Shoals. A songwriter, A-Team first call session musician in both city´s, 40 odd years on the road with Al Green, Steve Winwood, ....sh*t I hate to type so I´ll leave out the various Claptons and Page and stuff. I use my Grammy (one of the old wooden one´s from ´76) for an ashtray - I know what I´m talking about. Why don´t people let me into their house and just take what I want? They do it to me! The word is THEFT people, and a thief is a thief.

The songwriters CREATE the music for the artists to present to the public - 10-20 years from now, who´s going to create the songs when they stand to make Jack Squat from their efforts? I mowed lawns to BUY my records when I was a kid. THEFT was then called ...get this....THEFT. I´ve lost a lot of income to such nincompoopary that, in your comment, seems to make such activity just hunky-dory. I was on the road with many name groups 60´s through 2007 and your statement: ¨It is generally accepted that you make as much or more on a tour as you do from the album itself¨ is complete hogwash. Except for Rolling Stones sized super groups, I´ve never seen a tour turn a resounding profit.
