So what does the title mean? Where does the term "The 5th Estate" come from? #curious

How are the "impressions" and "feedback" % calculated. I am assuming impressions are number of news feeds the story made it into and feedback is the percentage of those users that liked or commented? What about clicking a link? Is that a part of the feedback %?

Also, I have noticed that you can come back to these number 30 or 60 days later and they have continued to go up. Is there a lifespan on these numbers? Why would they increase that far out from a published date?

It seems like some cornerstone of the internet dies every week. Blogging, RSS, etc. I think it is more of a symptom of the boredom of insiders and the super savvy.

But you are right, it does not do much for the business owners and marketers trying to learn how to make the social web work for them. I would advise anyone trying to learn social media to stay away from blogs that sensationalize. Blogging will be around for some time. Social media as well. Invest in both.

great post Jason. I also went and bought it right away. Looking forward to testing it out. The next step is auto posting it to Wordpress or Posterous for blogging purposes.

Agreed Eric. I think we can all learn from each other. I am hoping this series will leave encourage those very types of posts. Filling in the whole that we miss, or at least the counter points.

Agreed Sam. I think they would be farther along if it were not for the economic situation reducing a lot of staffs and budgets. I know a couple agencies who plan to bring on Social Media staff, but have not been able to budget it out yet.

Thanks Jeremy. It truly is a big communications merge. Everyone uses the internet for their industry. Social Media is a part of it all.

Not really the point I was getting at Harry. I just think as a hypothetical, it would get Newspapers thinking in better directions. Take the pay for content model off the table, and what would replace it?
