Because abuse victims are told not to tell, and they are given various reasons why, like death threats, or threats against the family, or that the victim is just as guilty as the perpetrator so telling would only bring shame and disgrace to the child -- all kinds of reasons why not to tell. Hearing from a trusted authority (in this case, his pastor) that the victim is not to blame and it's OK to tell, and in fact it's GOOD to tell, that's the part that a lot of victims need to hear in order to come forward. What are the actual facts in this story? There's the fact that his contract has not been renewed. The reason has not been disclosed so this man has been publicly theorizing as to why. We (the public) have no other facts about this man's work habits, professionalism, skills, etc., and it seems really bizarre to be presented with this one sliver of non-information, to be told a skewed version of things as if it's the only possibility.
