http://markspoils.blogspot.com/ : Weekly Shenanigans

I actually just finished this book a week or two ago. I was disappointed that Tally and Shay's friendship pretty much disappeared as soon as the love interest was introduced. And of course David falls in love with Tally because she's different and mature, not like that silly Shay who doesn't understand anything. It makes Shay look so ridiculous and delusional because she's going around saying David was her boyfriend when that was clearly not the case?? And the only thing Tally and Shay talk about at the Smoke is David. Anyway, that was my main complaint with the book. The premise is interesting and I definitely plan to read the later books, I just hope that issue is resolved.

Anthy was the first-ever Puella Magi. Her wish to Kyubey was to save her brother from killing himself rescuing people. But when he became Akio, she fell into despair and became a Witch. Ohtori is her labyrinth. Someone needs to write this fanfic.

Most interestingly, Wakaba seems to be shifting into an Utena-like role... (Who I that pouncing on her, anyway? A-ko? Keiko?) I'm pretty sure that's the girl from the first episode who told Wakaba that her "boyfriend' had gone on without her.

But it's also satisfying to think of Anthy as having had her own goddess/witch power all along, or having saved her brother and thwarted that mob as her own human self. Hm, the more I think about that reading the more I like it. Maybe Anthy was bluffing. The mob never stopped to *check*, after all. And her witch powers could have grown later over time, fueled by everyone's hatred and fear. I've always thought that Anthy lied to the crowd about sealing away Dios/his power. It cuts to him right before Anthy is attacked and he looks the same as he did before.

She knows that being passive and unresponsive will upset Akio, and she gives that little smile at the end when she knows she's succeeded.

I think Utena doesn't remember what the prince looks like, since it happened so long ago and the memory is tied in with so much trauma (the death of her parents). As for Akio, I think he wants to seduce Utena in such a way that she "betrays" her prince, maybe to take away her nobility?

I don't think Ruka expected Juri to love him, either. I'm surprised to see so many comments where people think Ruka expected to "turn" Juri or whatever. He clearly knew he was going to be the bad guy but thought it was worth it to save Juri. Honestly, a lot of my hatred for the guy comes from seeing the Juri/Ruka shipping that occurs in the fandom.
