KATU - Portland, OR : Unions file lawsuit challenging new Wash. liquor law | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Portland News,

I may be wrong, but I think the new law will make selling liquor in any grocery store possible. While Costco will see a huge benefit, many other businesses will have the chance to profit from alcohol sales. Jobs come and go, monopolies like liquor sales in Washington should definitely go...

Please site that scripture... I've never read it, and I've read all the canonized scripture of the Mormon church. Your comments are bigoted and false and I don't even give a shit about the fucking mormon church.

It seems that you are conflating the idea of ignorance being stupidity. They're not the same, although they run in similar circles. If you fail to realize this then because you're no longer ignorant (you know) you run the risk of being judged stupid. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but words do have meaning, or at least they should. I was just trying to clear up some FACTS that can be found out through a few quick internet searches. And it is a FACT that there are black men in the Mormon church leadership.

Are you kidding? The definition of ignorance is not knowing or "lack of knowledge". "If the Mormon church is not...", there is no "if". And I don't even care about the church, but this guy has a clear complaint to me.

Your premise is flawed from the beginning. The Mormon church is not a whites-only church. It seems to me some of this discrimination has been caused by others similar ignorance. Prior to 1978, blacks were able to be baptized and join the LDS church; they were not authorized to hold the priesthood (the authority of the church). This was changed after 1978, now anyone can join the LDS church and hold the priesthood (I'm talking men, not women) and there are even a few blacks in some of the highest positions in the church.

KATU - Portland, OR : LDS leader\'s speech on gays modified on website | KATU.com - Portland News, Sports, Traffic Weather

Surprise Surprise, a Christian leader is telling people that to commit homosexual acts is to sin. Why is this news? Does the pro-homosexual movement expect Judeo-Christian doctrine that's been around for thousands of years to change just so they don't have to be offended? Why not just subscribe to a different faith? Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Atheism - they're all out there waiting to be adopted. As long as the Mormons don't protest outside military funerals with anti-gay signs or lobby congress to have homosexuality outlawed, I think they're OK to express their OPINIONS. These are opinions after all, aren't they?

KATU - Portland, OR : Poll: Repeal health reform? Most wish it went further | KATU.com - Portland News, Sports, Traffic We

I sympathize with people that don't have health insurance because of the high costs of even the most insignificant doctor visit, but I don't see how a sweeping government power grab is going to lower costs for anyone. If the government tries to control prices - doctors will retire or young people will choose other professions. Do we really want to ration access to doctors because of their scarcity? This socialized system will stifle innovation and limit choices (except for the rich, because they're rich). In a few years, sure you'll have a doctor. You'll just have to enjoy your ulcer for six months until you get your doctor visit.

KATU - Portland, OR : Craigslist \'censored\' bar won\'t stop online prostitution | KATU.com - Portland News, Sports, Traf

Prostitution should be legalized, regulated and taxed. It would be better to make money (tax revenue) off this business rather than spend money policing the issue. Especially in a liberal state like Oregon this should be happening. It would be more practical to regulate this issue into certain parts of town away from families and youth. I don't advocate for prostitution, but how long is it going to take to figure out that it isn't going away. Consenting adults should be free to engage in anything that doesn't harm an unwilling party.

"Don't complain about traffic congestion, then." Why not complain? It's not my fault the city planners suck in Portland. Show me another city the size of Portland that doesn't have 4 lane freeways. Heck, show me another part of I-5 where the freeway is two lanes in a metropolitan area. With the money that has been spent on light rail in Portland, we could have 5 lanes on every freeway in the Portland Metro area with money left over to beef up bus routes to take care of those people that rely on public transit. This city is a joke.

Don't you recognize that raising the age limit to 16 is as arbitrary as anything else. What if he was 16 when this happened - should we raise it to 21? I say let parents decide what they think their kids can handle. His parents should be commended for loving their son enough to support him in his pursuits. Other kids get to stay home and watch the boob tube all day - sometimes safety is overrated. This kid was an amazing talent on a motorcycle, and he got extremely unlucky - like powerball odds unlucky. And the knee jerk reaction is to raise an age limit? How about we outlaw all motor vehicle based travel - then everyone would be saved from life threatening motor vehicle accidents? I'm just applying your logic. This story should end with condolences for the family, not a debate about what age limit will keep you safe from all conceivable accidents.

Big Government : 'The Mother of the Freedom Movement,' Her Neighborhood Needs YOUR Help

I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but I believe the SCOTUS made the correct decision in the Kelo case. Why? Because in my view, and I think the conservative judges on the courts view, the issue was less about eminent domain and more about upholding states rights. And at the end of the day I think rare abuses of eminent domain a less important issue than the idea of keeping the eminent domain power within the state jurisdiction. I hate the idea of having ones property confiscated, but there are situations when certain property should be forfeit, with proper compensation, in order to serve the public good. And if abuses are common or uncommon and egregious, localities should hold their elected officials responsible through the media and the ballot box, and if compensation isn't adequate - a lawyer. Our country, while founded on a core belief of the right to property, was also founded on a heightened sense of personal responsibility. If citizens of the community can't be responsible enough to take care of their property to the standards of a community and to the detriment of their neighbors and own safety, there naturally should be remedies for the omission. I think the question here is whether or not the residents had adequate notice and time to make changes. Conveniently none of those facts were part of the news story.
