Yeah?? And they dont receive SS after they retire either. The cities are actually saving money this way. Most departments match a 457 or MEBT at 3-6.2 % which is less than the 7% or so that they pay per employee to SS. So how they invest that is up to them. It can be good or bad. If you retire at 53 with 20 years that is only 40%, not that great. And the FF pay a majority into LEOFF. Compare all the pension plans in the state and you will see that LEOFF 1 and 2 are very well managed and funded. The state is now trying to get that money but will be forced to pay it back big time under contract. If they leave it alone, the FF do a great job funding a majority of their own pension. THat is because they have reps on the LEOFF board. Most FF work a 56 hour week so the 8 day a month thing is bogus. Here is an example. 24 on 48 off. I go to work on Monday at 8 am get off Tuesday at 8 am. Back on Thursday at 8am off Friday 8am. Back on Sunday 8am off Monday 8 am. So I work So I put in 8 hours on 2 days and 16 hours 3 days. So I am not working 8 days a month, I am working on at least 20 different days a month, so that 8 day a month thing is not true
These palaces are such a wast of taxpayer money. There should be 3 or 4 designs of schools to choose from that the construction plans and costs are already in. Building these palaces with marble floors and concrete etching is redonkuluos. Why do private schools with much inferior facilities test so much better and prodeuce more college bound students on average. You cannot buy your way to a great education. This place will turn into a dump like the old Lynnwood High with all the gang wannabees and druggies.
Maybe if the Chief of FD7 didn't make over 200K a year. WTF? Makes more than any Chief including Seattle and more than the Governor. Go figure why FF's get a bad name with salaries like that!!!

If you take all the prisoners that come from a household with a live in father and mother the prison population % is relatively the same among the races. But prisoners that come from a single mother household the african american population is a much higher %. Just goes to show the importance of a father figure for ALL kids. I work to provide for my family and if you want roads, fire, police, water, sewer, electricity, etc, you need to pay for that stuff. If you have such a pre-conceived notion to who is a low life and who is worthy, maybe you should be a cop! Sounds like your ability to provide patient care is jaded. Or maybe you clean the ER? In that case, I would be jaded too.
What exactly about abortion do you "believe in". Just because you work in a ER and see people who dont need kids? There are people out there who would gladly take those kids because they cannot conceive children on their own. If you let the process go what happens? A baby. If you go with an abortion what happens? To me it is cut and dry. Either you believe people should have the right to kill or it is murder. Why do people who commit crimes against pregnant women which result in the death of the mother and fetus get charged with 2 counts of murder or manslaughter?
