The image that emerges from this profile in Big Hollywood is not pretty as Fithian's efforts at self-adulation lead to vandalism and harassment against those she deems her enemies. Those she deems her friends, like Cindy Sheehan, are used and then tossed over the shoulder when they can no longer bring attention to Lisa Fitihian's favorite cause... Lisa Fitihian. One episode in particular demonstrates this narcissism. For Lisa Fithian, the Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort wasn't about helping desperate people who lost everything, but was just another opportunity to make herself the star in her own Street Theater production. When Bush the Evil conjured up Hurricane Katrina to further oppress all people of color, Fifthian added New Orleans to her itinerary. But she hit the scene too late. Fellow Austin activist Brandon Darby had already co-founded Common Ground Relief, a non-profit organization that provided supplies, food, shelter, and medical help to Katrina survivors in the Big Easy's ninth ward. Darby and his coworkers had their hands full, so - beyond announcing that she was a lesbian woman - there wasn't really anything for Fithian to do. So she staged a protest. Against Common Ground Relief. The victims of Katrina could wait until the Fithians established a "queer safe space" and demanded equal jobs for LGBT (even if they were unqualified for them). (But hey, they made up for the delay later by turning Common Ground's kitchen into a yummy, vegan-only bread line!) While Darby did the heavy lifting (one thing men are good for), Fithian demanded "social justice" even in the midst of an epic disaster. Of course, "social justice" here had little to do with helping actual people; it was more about redistributing the power, such as it was. As Fithian describes on her website, Organizing for Power, Organizing for Change, "thousands of mostly young people were provided anti-racist/sexist training and Undoing Racism workshops and encouraged to continue this kind of work in their own communities." Yes, that's right... she "helped" the people of New Orleans who had just lost their homes, their possessions, their jobs (or their welfare check delivery system anyway), and their families... by lecturing them on racism. Darby, of course, went on to become a "traitor" to the progressive cause by becoming an FBI informant against his fellow radicals who were plotting to murder Republicans at the RNC convention in Minneapolis. Fithian showed up at the trials of her fellow radicals. When Darby took the witness stand, she muttered Pagan curses against him under his breath. Read the whole thing, even if you understand the narcissism that drives the left pretty well. It never hurts to understand the enemy a little more.
