Ultrasn0w 1.1-1 drained my 3GS - 50% (10hrs by using edge,skype,yahoo). I am testing the old substrate & ultrasn0w 0.93 now, and will report soon.

You have new bootrom (iOS 4.0 is a NO for now), so the best option is stay with 3.1.3, jailbreak with Spirit, and unlock it with ultrasn0w. After installed ultrasn0w, you can use different network carriers.

You can't jailbreak/unlock 4.0 with the new bootrom right now; however you can downgrade your iPhone back to 3.1.3 jailbreak with Spirit and unlock it with ultrasn0w (in Cydia). AT&T SIM card is use for activation via iTunes.

I think you have the iOS 4.0 baseband. For 3G user, you can upgrade 4.0 via iTune 9.2, jailbreak with redsn0w and unlock with ultrasn0w.

From my experienes on 3GS (old bootrom) with spirit, I can restore 3.1.3 official with shsh 3.1.3 stored on Cydia server without any issues. For upgrade iOS 4.0, it is possible on 3.1.3 (Spirit, old bootrom). I did it on my iPhone.
