GazetteOnline.com : Obama wasn’t honest on health care reform

Hello??? When were employers NOT able to do whatever the heck they wanted with the health insurance they offered their workers? Now it's all Obama's fault? I wonder, is the writer is really as misinformed as he seems, or is he just interested in spreading misinformation to discredit the president?

GazetteOnline.com : Mexicans in Iowa should speak English

I always find it laughable when Americans find the speaking of languages other than English so threatening. Don't be "a-scared" Mr Gresham, not ALL those Spanish speakers are talking about you, or planning a drug deal, or conspiring to commit a crime. Some of them are just minding their own business, living their lives. You should try it sometime.

GazetteOnline.com : State scientific proof for evolution

James, I challenge you to provide scientific proof that you wrote a letter to the editor of the Cedar Rapids Gazette, and that I posted a response here. I just don't believe it, and you can't prove it. Silly, right? No more so than your suggestion that there is no scientific proof of evolution.

GazetteOnline.com : Palin better on paper than in White House

I think the thing that drives us liberals crazy about Sarah is the fact that a fair share of our fellow Americans actually think that she is qualified to be president! I for one wouldn't be concerned except for the fact that we elected another dunce, George W Bush, TWICE. I just don't want to see our country repeat history by electing another dimwit who can't even form a complete sentence, let alone govern a country.

"( Yep if we could have only found a Democrat for President with enough backbone to not bow to any foreign leader.)" Backbone? That's what it takes to keep oneself from showing respect to foreign leaders? Sorry, but I'll take "no backbone" Obama, who is more admired in the world than any Republican president in recent history, over phony cowboy arrogance any day.

OK, I did the Googling for you maddmatt. Had to go all the way back to George W Bush, bowing to the Saudi leader. (They also held hands once). I'm sure there are more, but I'm getting bored with this silly argument. http://littlegreenfootballs.com/article/33289_Bus...

GazetteOnline.com : Health care bill is smoke and mirrors

First the writer claims that the "announced" cost is $849 billion, but that the actual cost will be $2.5 trillion. He doesn't give his sources, but the CBO says the senate bill will cost $849 billion, so I assume that's where his figure comes from. I would guess that means the writer doesn't trust the CBO's figures. But wait. In his next paragraph, he QUOTES the CBO as warning that public option premiums will be no lower than private insurance company premiums. Seems to me someone is cherry-picking their facts to advance a political adgenda. Then he goes on to repeat false right wing talking points like the one about medical tort reform being a "major" factor. It is not. Many states already have it in place with little or no result. Talk about smoke and mirrors.

I think you answered your own question about the 48% who approve of Obama when you asked "What are they thinking?" Thinking is the key. They are people who think for themselves rather than hearing and repeating what they hear on Fox "News".

Judging by his campaign rhetoric, if McCain were president today we would probably be involved in a third war with Iran. (Remember "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran"). The economy would be in the midst of a second Great Depression (remember "The economy is fundamentally sound"). The only good thing is, by now, we would no longer have Sarah Palin as our Vice President, because she would have quit to go on a book tour.

You do understand I was being sarcastic about nuclear weapons not killing people don't you? Of course I would not want Iran to have them. I wish nobody did. I was responding to the first post, which brought out the old "guns don't kill people, people kill people" line. I was not speculating that better gun control would have saved lives at Fort Hood.
