Same, but it's amazing, because I've completely stopped tending to them now.

Do it! I bought green sparkly liquid eyeliner for Halloween last year and have totally worn it when I'm feeling bored. Watching your friends react without bringing it up is hilarious.

This post honestly reminded me that the first mascara I ever bought was blue.

Agreed - if only those pants weren't final sale, too. I wholeheartedly support florals of every scale everywhere. Literally the worst thing that will happen is someone will joke that you look like their grandma's couch, to which you can hold eye contact and respond "that's the point." Or idk, anything else to make them feel like they've lost.

The main thing is being able to write or edit in a client's voice, and to keep an eye out for translating marketing content into sales leads. There are so many trades - my clients are in various corners of tech, so it helps to have writers and editors that can quickly get the core message of a company or industry they're not usually familiar with. Turnaround time is also a plus, but that probably goes for freelancing in general.

In terms of certifications, HubSpot (a sales platform - similar to salesforce, which is what big companies generally use, except this one is geared toward small biz and particularly big in the northeast) - orders a free Inbound Certification class that is helpful. Not  very company recognizes the name, but the ones that do respect it. The course basically goes through the why and how of marketing, so it gives you a core understanding and helps you "speak the language," and when you're done you can put "inbound certified" on your LinkedIn. Haha. Good luck!

Yay! I actually just want to follow this thread - I'm going to London for the first time in three weeks (!). Staying with a friend's family (also for five days), and would love city recommendations. I'm also hoping to do an overnight trip somewhere cool (and accessible by train), though I haven't landed on where to go.

OH MY GOD SHE IS SO CUTE.

I work for a marketing/PR firm that manages a couple of freelance writers and editors, and I know we found one through a local content marketing Google group. It may be worth checking out that kind of stuff (LinkedIn, too) if you don't mind the industry. Or, just sending friendly emails to a couple of agencies to see if they need help. I have no idea how to break into the book publishing side of editorial.

I bought a couple of J Crew bathing suits on sale recently, and I'm not a J Crew shopper, but they're good quality and fit. One was a crop top: https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/Swim2/Print... and one was high waisted: https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/Swim2/Print... and I never wear either of those things but I really like em.
