So, let&#039;s suppose I have an ATT locked phone and I use SAM method to unlock my phone to work with my wife&#039;s tmobile sim. Will the phone still work with any original Att sim? Will the phone work with any other tmobile sim or just my wifes? Also, anyone knows if after restoring the phone the unlock for the Tmobile sim remains?.. Thanks

whatever you do don&#039;t update to a stock firmware!! fist make a custom Firmware with redsn0w, put your phone in pwned mode and then flash the resulting NO_BB firmware to your phone with itunes, so you don&#039;t update your baseband. After you flash the NO_BB proceed to jailbreak your phone with redsn0w. NOTE: If you update to a stock firmware with itunes you won&#039;t be able to unlock your phone anymore. So make sure you use the No_bb firmware created with redsn0w.

Use Redsn0w to create a Custom firmware, put your phone in pwned mode and restore to that firmware using itunes. then use Jailbreak option in Redsn0w to jailbreak and hacktivate.

You can always use iclarified tutorials. <a href="http://iclarified.com/jailbreak/index.php" target="_blank">http://iclarified.com/jailbreak/index.php</a>

you shouldn&#039;t be restoring from a backup if you just updated to 5.0.1 or at least its not recommended if you are jailbreaking your device. its really up to you. You could just select &quot;Setup as new&quot; and then sync back all your apps, mails, notes, etc...

WOW!!!! Hey! Stop don&#039;t do that!! you&#039;ll damage your GPS!! smhabib1 doesn&#039;t have a clue of what he&#039;s talking about!!! don&#039;t go near a stock firmware.... Use RedSn0w to Create a custom Firmware, put the phone in pwned DFU mode with redsn0w also then flash this NO_BB custom firmware to your phone using iTunes. After that you&#039;ll just need to Jailbreak the phone using the latest redsn0w.

I guess It could be either of the following scenarios: 1. A phone with 5.0.1 that was modified with 5.0 libraries so Ultrasn0w 1.2.4 worked on it before 1.2.5 was released. 2. A phone with 5.0.1 that has bigboss semi-tether installed. Either way I would select a clean install and start over. :D

When you create a normal custom ipsw with redsn0w all it does is remove the BB part out of the firmware. It doesn&#039;t modify it in any other way so you&#039;ll keep your boot logos. Also, once you install the custom IPSW (created with redsn0w) you have the option to activate your phone with your ATT sim card and just then after the phone is activated with a custom firm installed you proceed to jailbreak the phone with Redsn0w and install ultrasn0w. If you do everything as I already explained you won&#039;t be hacktivated

you can&#039;t go to 4.3.1 unless you have your shsh saved and since you don&#039;t know that, you have to install a custom 5.0.1 preserving your currently installed baseband. If you make a Custom 5.0.1 with RedSn0w the resulting ipsw will be named NO_BB_XXXXXXX.ipsw so try not to get confused and use any other ipsw but the one starting with NO_BB prefix

Hi! I would like to confirm if when you use the stich option in redsn0w the resulting ipsw preserve the currently installed baseband on the phone??. I know Custom IPSW does preserve the baseband as The resulting filename is NO_BB_iPhone3,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw) but when I tried the Stich option I got a fileneme like 1234567890_iPhone3,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw with the serial instead of NO_BB string in the name. Thanks

Jailbreak option in RedSn0w does only what it says it does. Jailbreak the currently installed firmware on your phone. it does not restore firmwares or something like that so you could loose your BB and the Custom IPSW option in redsnow already states that it preserve your baseband.. Take note that the Custom IPSW option in redsnow does not do the Jailbreak just let you update your phone without updating your Baseband and after doing that you have to use the Jailbreak Option to jailbreak it.

Yes. You can use Sn0wBreeze to update to 5.0.1 and with sn0wbreeze you can choose if you want a tethered jailbreak or just update to 5.0.1 while preserving the baseband without doing any jailbreak.

Great work! but I have a question though. How does apple achieve this? how come its able to detect that the phone was previously on 5.x ? if I&#039;m not connected to the Net but have tiny Umbrella running, it&#039;s tinyumbrella answering the shsh request. How a firmware that I have backed up on my hdd (4.3.3) is able to do changes to the phone that didn&#039;t do before I went to 5.x. Does 5.x makes some new changes to the phone that snowbreeze is not able to prevent? is it writing a part of the current bb so when you restore back triggers the brick?? Thanks

I though this was only true for 4S not 4. So even If I have my iphone 4 shshs for 5.0 I won&#039;t be able to restore to that firm ? I got to try that. THanks
