Hi Vicki, Read your article about Sudbury, Suffolk County, UK. It is also very close to Marks Tey (we have Markstay!) as well as Chelmsford, both in Essex County just across the boarder. My father grew up in Chelmsford. Besides Constable and Gainsborough, Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson hales from Norfolk County where the town of Thetford is located. It was a very interesting and enjoyable ceremony, and ONLY male persons are allowed to take part in this ceremony. Many ropes attached to the totem, and at and when the drum sounded, the totem was raised little by little until is put in place. My Husband, and 4 boys along with I'm sure over one hundred took part -- don't remember the date, but I have a photo , check the Sudbury Star archieves .
