This is super helpful, Ais! I've had a pretty crappy apartment experience in the past -- complete with roaches and having to threaten to sue them in order to get my deposit back. Argh. Now, though, I think that with the economy as is it, it's a little bit more of a renters' market. That said, you can never be too careful. There are some skeezy people out there. Thanks for all the advice!!

I recently read an essay and the single woman who wrote it said that she had started viewing Valentine's Day like she views Kwanzaa -- a nice holiday that she happens not to celebrate. I think that's really kind of smart. Like, what's the point of getting all bent out of shape about it? At the same time, I think it's hard not to focus on being single on a day like Valentine's Day and it does point out that you might rather be in a relationship. That said, there are so many different kinds of love and who says Valentine's Day has to be about romantic love? It's also a great day to celebrate friendship and family love. I'm heading to the Grand Canyon this weekend with a great friend.
