Bilang isa siya sa oldest engineering courses. Kasi ang civil engineering more on sanitary, waste and structurals sila 'yan. Pero ang ME, you can work at an air conditioning company, a car company, other manufacturing companies = mas marami opportunities. Marami na rin ang CE ngayon unlike ME na medyo onti na lang ang kumukuha at mas lalo pa kung galing ka sa isang top caliber school like UP, eh di medyo assured na lamang ka in finding a job. Ang isa pang kagandahan sa ME ay andoon ako. Oh di ba? May friend ka na agad. Hehe. :) And I would like to believe that we have the one of the best faculty in the country na talaga namang nahahasa ang potentials ng students. Hehe. It's just that pasok siya sa cutoff grades ng Language Proficiency, Reading Comprehension, Math and Science. Pero kapag hinalo ang highschool grade doon pa lang malalaman kung ano ang UPG niyo. Pag nalaman yun, itatry kayo ipasok sa 1st course choice ninyo, kung hindi pasok eh di sa 2nd course choice, then kung di pa rin pasok until 4th choice, pero pasado kayo ng UPCAT, papapiliin kayo ng course na wala sa 4 choices ninyo. Pero kung bagsak kayo ng UPCAT, mukhang wala ka nang magagawa but to re-appeal for courses in UPLB/UPM/UPB kasi walang appeal appeal sa Diliman. Nako. Tingin ko, may kapabayaan na nangyari from your school. They may have sent your Form 137 pero may kulang or may problema sa units ng grades. Kailangan kasi iyon sa pag-compute ng UPG mo. Ngayon, dahil hindi alam ng UP ang cocomputin na grade ninyo, hindi nila ma-compute UPG ninyo. So tingin ko ay dapat pumunta kayo (or relative ninyo or rep ng school, though ine-encourage ko na sana kayo na lang ang pumunta ng isang bulk at dalhin niyo na agad ang copy ng Form 137 ninyo, para kapag hiningi sa inyo ay madali na lang maiprocess kaagad. Noong time ko, noong idinala doon ang Form 137 ko, nalaman ko agad na pumasa ako after an hour. Ang course na napuntahan ko ay ang first choice ko sa UP Diliman, but that wouldn't be for all cases. Depende pa rin sa grade ninyo sa Form 137 na nagkaproblema kung makakapasa kayo o hindi. Pwede ring makapasa kayo pero di sa course na gusto niyo kasi filled up na halos lahat ng courses. Kaya nilalagay ang name niyo sa Pending List ibig sabihin yung score niyo mismo dun sa UPCAT na test ay enough para makapasa kayo pero hindi pa sure kung pasado kayo dahil nga may factor ang highschool grade. :) Hope this answers your question. From what I think, your option is to take up another course then shift na lang sa Chemical Engineering by Summer 2012. Kailangan nga lang mamaintain mo ang grade, it's easier to shift from Engg to Engg so I would be recommending the following courses: Mechanical or Materials Engineering. Ang kulang lang nila pag nagshift ka by Summer ay Chem 17, which I think you can take ng Summer or 1st Sem ng 2nd year. If you want naman ng similar subject talaga with Chem Engg, go for BS Chemistry, though medyo malabo at mahirap ang pag-shift from College of Science where BS Chem belongs to BS ChemEngg which belongs to the College of Engineering. Since naman Civil Engineering ang second choice mo, why not take up Mechanical Engineering, magkapatid ang course na Chem at Mech. Mas physical lang ang approach sa Mech at chemical sa Chem. Hindi sa pinupromote ko ang course ko pero pareho lang din tayo na may powerplant designs, thermodynamics etc. so baka magustuhan mo din ang ME. Kung gusto mo na mag-stay sa UP Manila and I am assuming you want to take up Medicine after, ang ma-rerecommend ko ay take either Speech Pathology, Public Health or Community Nutrition. Since sa Manila ka DPWS, parang dun ka lang talaga pwede kumuha ng courses but if you go to UP Office of Admissions sa Diliman, maybe you can try asking if pwede ka mag-Bio or Psych or Community Nutrition in Diliman. So what you have to do is to have a copy of your Form 137 yung certified ng school mo, punta ka ng UP Office of Admissions and ask why Pending Case ka. If sabihin na dahil sa Form 137 mo, eh di ready ka na. Hindi sure na papasa ka if mabigay mo Form 137 mo, icocompute pa nila ang UPG mo.
