I don't think opinion polls are accurate at all... even if everything else was perfect there is no telling whether the sample respondents answered honestly and seriously, and whether they will vote!!

love this list ....:) Elvis Costello, Funky Town, Abracadabra, ONJ, The Bangles ...Walk like an Egyptian, Take a look at me now ... Philcollins, wham ... and do you remember Patridge family's :'I think I love you'? And Yvonee Aillmann? Bryan Adams - my husband's fav. We used to make our 'In The groove' lists, (5 to 8 'number') I wonder if you know if this radio proggramme at 8 05 PM every weekday ? We made lists of songs we would play if we presented it, I had auditioned at AIR, but didn't get a call (generally random students presented it) ...this lovely post brought back fun memories .. . won't bore you anymore!! Thanks for this lovely post. We also didn't watch Hindi movies then (but love them today).. .

I first went 'online' in ...1998-99, couldn't do much because we only had my husband's office laptop and didn't have internet access, barely got to check email ... (and still crib about it). Only in 2001 did we buy our first computer and a frustratingly slow connection... now everybody has their own comps and unlimited access, but I value it because I have seen how bad it can be to be without the WWW :)

All those who have a voice must be shut up with the tag of not being real Indians, all those who can be kept silent are allowed to be Indians, I saw the same card being played during the candle lighting on Gate Way of India, (Naqwi tried to divide Indians into lipstick applying Indians and non lipstick applying Indians) - it would be amusing if it wasn't so outrageous. Again during the PCC campaign we heard murmurs of how Pubgoing Indian women not being aware of real Indian women's issues, I blogged about these divisive tactics then too. And now when some CDs are to be defended in the name of saving our religion (although the CDs are docotored, they still must be defended!) once again we hear the same raga, and the amusing thing is those who tell us we are not real Indians are often saying this in English. Or at least will willingly send their children to good English medium schools... hey Bones sorry for the long rant, I feel strongly about this. Like RK says above, If you are an awake Indian You are a fake Indian :(

@Solilo, Ajit I think this minority has very little choice, on one hand there is open dislike and a fear or threat of violence, on the other there is an offer of friendship (- true or false), at least there is no threat, so I won't blame them for choosing the Congress, with or without a Muslim face.. I think this is a sad time, for all minorities, in India ... PS Intense debate makes me sign in each time I comment ... trying to post this comment for the fourth time :( Did you try back type? You keep track of all your own and others comments without requiring your commenters to sign in or retype a comment.

And I have met enough school drop outs from such schools to know that a majority of children refuse to go to school because of this abuse. Their parents value education but the corporal punishment and the school leaving and birth certificate are the biggest hurdle. Most Indian parents who can afford it (or even if they can't afford it) prefer to put their kids in private school.

I do agree with a comment above that Congress will do very well on it's own, without Gandhi family as support. But in a country where most parties even welcome criminals if they can get bring some votes, I fear they will not want to lose the large number of votes got by this dynasty.

I agree with Sagarone here. My own maid swore by one party last time, and said they had all decided to vote for that party, but came back and said she and their whole slum voted for another party. They know their votes count.

I would have celebrated and cheered if Tata had been welcomed into another state that needed it more and by another leader who did not have Modi's background. Sad, but then Ratan Tata is a business man. People of West Bengal are being 'collectively penalized' for Mamta Banerjee's vote politicking. I hope this sets a good example for the voters there. Modi is working towards a cleaner image! @Anrosh : No doubt Marwaris and Gujratis have good business sense, that is why Modi got voted back to power. He knows how to get the majority's votes. @Sagarone: Winning votes or staying in power is not necessarily an indication of being righteous, or just or ethical. Take Lalu Yadav's example? Today he is popular with even the media, including NDTV :) Public memory is short lived. We Indians forgive very fast :)

The difference between Rajeev Gandhi and Modi is that Rajeev Gandhi did not make any inflammatory speeches against Sikhs, the riots were unpardonable, but wasn't Jagdish Tyttler supposed to be behind those riots? The trouble with Modi was an unrepentant, shamelessness about the whole thing and he continues till today, now his Party (you are suggesting he leads it) is letting Christians be killed too. There is a right way to sort any differences, and violence is not that way. Let me ask you a slightly unrelated question: If BJP is so concerned about conversions, and if they really wish to reform it (who gave them the authority though? ) why start with converting all lower castes and all re-converts in to Brahmins? I am sure they believe all Hindus/citizens are equal?
