Adoption Associates, Inc. (Jenison, Michigan) has had a few complaints filed against it with the BBB and Michigan DHS. Parents have been waiting for 3 years or more to bring home children from Nepal, Russia, China, etc. while Adoption Associates, Inc. continues to encourage new parents to sign up and continues to tell current waiting parents that a child is just around the corner. Worse, Adoption Associates imposed mandatory fee increases in 2009 (investigated by DHS) which continues into 2010 in order to keep their doors open. If current clients don't pay, they risk file delays or termination by the agency. Adoption Associates has refused to meet collectively with waiting parents to discuss mutual concerns. I was recently advised by a friend that a grievance has been filed against them, likely there are others that have been filed.

New news/notification from a friend that a grievance has been filed against AAI/Jane Bareman for the continuing 2010 fee increases, lack of movement, etc. A few are seeking to pursue suit/class action against AAI soon.

Has anyone defending AAI bothered to review the report from Michigan DHS (2009C0105015)? Notice of fee increases is not the only issue. Per DHS and the Michigan regulations pertaining to licensed child placement agencies, such practices by AAI violated the rules; there's been a lack of full disclosure by AAI; and there are serious management issues attributable to Bareman. Yes, there are matters beyond AAI's control thanks to international countries/pressures, but that's just part of the problem. Bareman and AAI have been cited for this before - wake up people. It's not a Christian organization in the true sense, it's just a facade of smiling faces. Bottom line - they're a business - and they should be held accountable for their mismanagement just like any other business ( if Larry Flynt of Hustler proclaimed that he was a Christian instead of the king of smut, would his magazine now be OK to read?).
