GAC Blogs : Miranda Lambert: Good Girl or Bad Girl?

This is my favorite video in a while. I think the "action" is subtle for a reason, to match the lyrics and spirit of the song, as Dakota Rae says above. This is not an "in your face" song. If you're lucky enough to be a Southerner or have lived down here for a while, you know what "bless her heart" means. Miranda took that and ran with it, and I think she showed once again she's one of the best songwriters active right now in any genre. Also, this video portrays the '50s. I'm pretty sure women, even the "bad" girls, tended to be more reserved back then. I love the '50s "good girl" look. The color of Kellie's dress is especially stunning and looks wonderful on her. I think all four women did an outstanding job, and all their fans should be pleased. Miranda deserves the most credit of course; it's her amazing song brought to life.

It's not classy bashing other artists. I like and respect all four women in this video, and Carrie, too. I like some of their songs more than others, some of their videos more than others. But there's no need to bash someone, ever.

GAC Blogs : "Idol"'s Carrie Underwood, Danny Gokey, Kellie Pickler on Top 20

I think you're wrong., John. 1. This is one of the best-run polls on the Internet. You only get one vote per day. There's no way I know to override that. Only the votes cast here count. The rules are really clear ... only fans' vote count ... unlike that other country music channel. CMT mixes fan voting, radio and sales chart performance, video streams and backroom manipulation. No one outside CMT knows what the mix is. 2. If there's a way to manipulate the number of times you can vote here, ALL the fan bases could manipulate it equally. 3. Historically, there are artists who never appeared on Idol who regularly do well here. 4. Not every ex-Idol who sings country has done that well here. I don't think Kristy Lee Cook ever made the poll. Not sure I've seen Josh Gracin on the list lately. That's not a knock on those two, but it's more evidence you're wrong. Some fan bases just take these things more seriously because they realize it helps their star.

1001 Noisy Cameras : Of Nikon and Razors

In a way, this model is already working for Canon Powershot compact cameras. Whether they acknowledge it or not, I tend to think that the Canon Hack Development Kit is driving a lot of Canon compact camera sales. People know that if a Canon doesn't do something out of the box, the CHDK might give it that capability. And if Canon were really hacked off about it, they probably would have found a way to block the hacks by now.

1001 Noisy Cameras : New Pentax K-X offers a tempting AA-powered DSLR

I suppose the candy colored bodies would be good for taking photos of small children; it would help get their attention. And gang members and suburban wannabes now will be able to get cameras matching their colors. I'm sure that's a huge untapped market. I guess this one isn't weather-sealed so camoflage didn't make sense. But what about other patterns, like paisley or seersucker?

1001 Noisy Cameras : Sony reveals the three rumored DSLRs: Alpha A850 (FF), A550 and A500

Sony needs to stop the Memory Stick nonsense. This should be obvious to the company that gave us BetaMax. If the best Sony can do with Memory Stick is keep up with SD, why not just use SD? Sony must realize that no one wants it, because these new cameras have dual slots. The a850 has CF and MS, and the DX cameras have SD and MS. So why don't they just start phasing it out? It seems like they are probably wasting valuable R&D money that could be better spent elsewhere.

1001 Noisy Cameras : Samsung joins the mega-zoom wars with the WB5000 (RAW, 24X)

1001 Noisy Cameras : No resources for CS3 support on Snow Leopard says Adobe

There was an update that said the PhotoShop CS3 has been tested and does work. So maybe the rest of the suite will be OK, too. Adobe's never been good about supporting older software. They don't update Camera Raw for older versions, for instance.

Camera Deals : (SOLD OUT) Nikon 35mm f1.8 DX now shipping for $220

It's a decent lens. Not great. DX only. Not nearly as well built as my 50 f1.7 and 50 f1.4 Minoltas that I acquired decades ago for next to nothing. The Nikon's bokeh could be better, but it's sharp. And all that plastic means it's very light. I hate the lack of depth-of-field markings on the lens. How much does paint really cost? I still like to manual focus sometimes, and like most cheap autofocus lenses of recent build, the 35 DX just doesn't feel right. The ring turns too easily, like a toy instead of a precision instrument. But it's a fun lens to play with, and I'm glad I was able to get one for $200. I hope Nikon will someday supplement it with more reasonably priced primes.
