If Brietbart had the slightest bit of journalistic integrity, we'd see the entire clip, not just the edited tiny section that is crafted to support the idea that Obama is careless. Socialism is a major economic theory that has been embraced by dozens of countries around the world, many of which are our allies, such as most of Europe. If it were a repulsive force, as you assert, this would not be true. To the contrary, socialism provides a balancing force to capitalism's purely individualistic, and rather selfish, focus on personal wealth. Both aspects of economics are needed, in balance, for a healthy society. I have no idea what an "unaccountable god" is. Is the Christian god ,"accountable?" I though he was mysterious. If you mean that we humans cannot account for these issues, you would be arguing against science. Humans rights, the conservation and protection of natural resources- these are not fads, nor ever have been. The polarities are not preservation and prohibition in the case of personal rights. They are justice vs. injustice. You seem to find a restriction against polluting the air and water we all must have to live in order to generate immense personal wealth to be a restriction on personal liberty, while seeing the restriction to the individual right to abortion as not only acceptable, but righteous. The idea that the left has "sought more control of individuals..than the right" is so monumentally wrong it's scary you even have the balls to put it down. I think 3 million murdered Jews, homosexuals, Roma, and dissidents might disagree. And yes, they were right wing- not left. "[The left's agenda] is never about freeing others to create meaning." I think millions of Americans find tremendous meaning in the sacrifices and accomplishments of Martin Luther King in freeing African Americans during the civil rights era. Sorry, Joan, but I think you need Zinn's course. Your understanding of history is poor and badly biased.
