Megan Leigh Sweeney : B-roll

Some beautiful & inspiring footage Megan. Do you mind if I ask what camera model you recorded it on? On a completely unrelated note, this youtube video (which I find oddly hilarious) is where I learned what a b-roll was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SItFvB0Upb8&fe...

Good post Josh. Our team is very pro-data sharing. I'm curious about something: Why did you guys go with socialcast for team data sharing (as opposed to Yammer)? We're on Yammer, and at first glance, SocialCast just looks more powerful / customizable.

@nleach : Coping With MySQL Slave Lag

Great first post B. Are read queries on the master really replicated on the slave? I didn't know that. Also, you should consider throwing in a little bit of info about InnoDB, which can be useful when replicating big queries (because InnoDB uses row-level locking instead of table-level locking like MyIsam)

Hi Andre. Thanks for stopping by. Some visitors have questioned the ROI of renting the google logo space (for both Google and the advertiser). It's an interesting thought for sure, though.

The major question for any company is ROI. We've gotten some anecdotal evidence that the awareness generated by the Google logo is worth at least a couple grand. If I were to speculate, I'd agree that Google would not be willing to rent out their homepage logo-space for one day for that amount.

Welll well well.. Look who's on the minimalism train nowadays. You need to open the system preferences for each item that's in the top menu bar, and then uncheck 'show in menu bar'.

Interesting data Jeff. Thanks for the comment. Do you think you felt the bump on the anniversary of the invention of the bar code because of the google logo, because of other buzz/press about the anniversary, or both?

I typically launch Photoshop via spotlight, then drag & drop the document I'd like to use in Photoshop to the Dock once it's there. Like Richard said, there's no best way for everyone. Though it looks pretty complicated I'll have to check out Launchbar.

Hi Richard, Thanks for commenting. I'm not implying my method is right for everyone, but I do think there are definitely some best practices, and was hoping to start a conversation about that. What works best for you on your mac?

one : TechStars Pain Pattern

Great post Jud. I think it's worth noting that many Techstars CTO's do not have the experience of scaling a consumer website. There are hundreds of tiny decisions I make every day, and, with the benefit of experience or hindsight, I'd do them very differently. Much of the emphasis in Techstars was (at least for my team) showing that we could iterate / listen to our prospective userbase, and rightly so, we were trying to raise an angel round. Having an application that was scalable was not something that was not put on the frontburner at the time, simply because there was not an immediate need. Not that I am justifying not planning ahead, just offering a perspective from someone who's been there. :) Thanks for your tips. It is very nice to have posts like these in my delicious bookmarks to remind me not to make similar mistakes again.

Owocki dot com : Running a Startup? You're standing on the shoulders of giants.

Thanks Ingrid. I agree things are a little 'easier' these days, especially for us programmers. I don't even buy reference books any more. Google is my go-to for work issues. Though, on another note, I think to some effect, people need to feel challenged, and that it's the challenges that we face that really define us to some level. When all the resources you need are readily available, that makes nothing special and in some cases can put you in a place where you really need an ego check. Anyways, just my 2c.
